Thanks for the info Guys, I will look around for a Demo/Test Ride, I am going to South Carolina next week to pick up a 1200 Sportster I am buying, got a good deal, it will be a second bike, I am thinking of trading the two Bikes for a 07/08 model, I love the looks and style of the Electra Glide Classic and the way the Bike is set up, I much prefer the Big Bikes.

RK Classic is a wonderful bike. It rides sooooooo smooth! My HD Taxes are paid... The only thing the EGC has on the king is the radio. I will get an ultra some day, but the King is best of both worlds. Style, and comfort!

Cal your local dealer/dealers and ask about demo days...they all have them and are worth the time to maek a more informed decision!

Good luck

I have an 07 RKC that I love, had an 03 RKC I loved more. I haven't been all that impressed with the 96" over the old 88" butI do like the 6 speed tranny for the highway...I was always looking for another gear when I had the 03. Don't waste the money on the SERT. Go ahead and do the Stage I. If I was doing it over, I'd wait and do pipes and a fuel management system later. Also, if I was going to buy again today, I'deither be looking at theStreet Glide or I'd be saving my pennies for a detachable fairing with a sound system. I love the King but I'd really like to have some tunes.

I am wondering how the New Touring Bikes are with the new 96" engine and 6 speed gearbox. I am looking at a few and really like the Road King Classic or Electra Glide Classic. Any of you on here with these bikes care to chime in on how you like them and how they run and perform. I am leaning more toward the Electra Glide as the next Bike, I like everything about the way it is set up, I want to go with a nice Highway/Touring Bike next. I wish Harley had Demo Rides or Test Rides, I would love to see how one feels. I sat on them in the Showroom but that is not good enough.
You can't take bikes for a test ride in the USA ?

In the UK just have to phone the dealer and book which model you want, they even fuel it for ya.

I got an07 RK Classic, and I love it. You will need to get a tuner of some sort, new air cleaner, new exhaust, and new seat. I'm 6'2" so I moved the floorboards out 3/4" for comfort. I also bought a set of alloy wheels mainly for when I tour abroad. ( I can handle a breakdown but in an unfamiliar country where you no speaka the lingo its a real pain, and with tubeless tyres I run Ultraseal)

With this bike I can do 550 mile days with the wife, tour pack (and a bag on top), fully loaded with ease and cruise all day at 85mph if I want. It just eats up the miles, and the wife loves it.

When local I loose the tour pack and have what to my eye is a really nice looking bike.

I have to say that I find that the RK also handles better than my softail and has much better lean angles.

In short I don't think I will ever be without a RK, even if I get another model/make of bike as a second.

I know this may not go down well with some but if you want a bike to really ride get one of the bagger family, the choppers and les radical softails may talk the talk but thats where it ends. Don't get me wrong I loved my Nightrain as well and would like another as a second bike, but it is what it is, and I would be keeping the RK.

If you plump for the Classic, do two things. Remove and copper grease both axels (This applies to all bikes really), I have yet to find one from the factory which has been done to my satisfaction, and it will take about 5000 miles or 6 months for some to sieze into the wheel. The second is get a really good waterproof leather dressing, (the one which comes with the bike is ok, but its greasy and attracts the dirt, which ends up on the back of the wifes jean legs)take the bags off and rub some in over a few days. It will reduce the effect of moisture on the leather dramatically, and we do have an abundance of moisture in the UK

The 96" has a lot of grunt once you do the minor mods noted above, and although people bang on about HP, I am more interested in torque. In the real world this is what I find most useful. The 6 speed box really comes into its own on a long haul, saving gas and extending stops. I refill about every 150 miles and know that I will have about 30 to 50 miles left in the tank before I'm walking. If I'm local and know the gas station I'm heading fo I'm happy to let it run to 180 miles before a refuel.

Now the not so good. Well its going to be a pretty short list.
I fitted the IDS and its a shame it didnt come stock but its not the end of the world.
I wish I had ABS but I dont so that will have to wait till I get a new bike.
You may find that if conditions are just right on fast long sweeping bends that you feel a little loose in the rear, its nothing huge and due to the design of the swing arm mounting point. Just ride on as if nothing was happening, shutting down will only de-stabilise the bike and upset the suspension (which by the way is pretty damn good stock)

I guess the best I can say is that if I could go back in time I would buy exactly the same bike again.

Rent the bike you think you want and take it for a ride.Demo rides are too short to really get a feel for a bike.
