HD Stage1 download will richen up slightly under throttle, but still leaves you very lean at idle & cruise = heat issue not really resolved, but does give a little better throttle response.
Just an a/c will let in more air and make you leaner, that is why Stage1 is usually a/c, slip-ons, and download.
You can leave all alone and do just slip-ons as this will not make lean condition less.
I would at least do a V&H FuelPak or something similaras the download still leaves you keeping the EPA happy. This opinion is based on the 0796" engine.

not knowing any better i went w/ the stage 1 . bike ran hot, deceloration pop was horrible. i then went to the pc111. bike is not as hot as it was and no deceloration pop. if i knew then what i know now i would skip the stage 1 and go straight to the pc111 or some other fuel mgt. system.
