Has anyone toured the MOCO? I am going to Milwaukee for the Renegade pigs national convention next week and we are suppose to tour the MOCO. Just looking for any feedback i can get. Thanks!

It’s been a few years but I have. The disappointing part of the Milwaukee tour is they only assemble the engine and transmissions at that plant. You don’t get to see new Harleys rolling off the line.

We are heading up to gettysburg pa. in august and plan on touring the HD plant in York. Is there a schedule they go by or is it open daily for visits to the plant ?

York is generally open during weekdays and mornings are best - however, if you get there during their model change-over time, tours will not happen. I have toured the York PA plant twice (I live 40 miles from there) and it is well worth everyone's visit if you like H-D. I rode and serviced my BMW for years and they have absolutely nothing over HD as for quality of fit and finish, paint, reliability, etc. Touring the York plant will show you why this is so. During their open house in September, you don't have to stay with a small group and you can really take your time watching each step of the assembly process - one interesting point - no holes are drilled in the fenders, etc. They are cut with lasers - no burnishing or finishing is required as you can run your finger around the hole - smooth as silk due to the laser. Damn - I could sell these things -

Yes, you'll only get to see the engines and transmissions being assembled, plus they are only the Buell and Sportster engines at that. You will also see a little film, a small display of the various motors that the MOCO has produced over the years, the area where all motors are remanufactured, and an area where all custom made parts are built for bikes dating back to 1916 (I think). Also, the design center is directly behind this building, but that is off limits for anyone other than certain employees and God.

If you're interested, you can tour the Miller Brewing Facility also...it's just down the road a piece.

Hey Brian,

The York Pa tour is a first come, first serve affair. Get there early, because slots fill up pretty fast. I've done the tour twice in conjunction with the York Open House which occurs in September. It's an awesome event, kinda like an annual pilgrimage to Mecca or something. One bummer though. They make you check your camera's at the door...Have fun, you will be glad you went...

York -PA - -IT ROCKS! - been there two years in a row as well (04 and 05) - --missed the tour in 04 because I goofed around at the HUGE vedor area at the fairgrounds - - they close the tour down on Saturdays at 1400L - - I got there at 1405L!

I made it through the plant tour in 05, and what a tour! It was really cool seeing the touring bikes hanging around in different assembly phases (the line was not moving- no work on Saturdays)...but...towards the end of the tour, I was bored and ready to get to the vendor area where the party was and hang out - - got kinda tired of seeing bunches of sheet metal laying around after the assembly line!

It truely is worth it if you get out East - - PA is beautiful country to ride in!- -
