Dunno, maybe it catches even more air to push past the rear cylinder...but it sure seems like if they are running hot enough to need those shields, it can't be good for the longevity/performance of the engine. Seems it is just "covering" a problem.
Don't over analyze it. The heat still gets out, it simply deflects it away from your thigh is all. They work great and they look great to boot. I just put a set on my SG and it's a great product. The guy who owns the place is awesome to deal with and is a Vet. In fact they are 100% made in the USA by Vets. Gotta give him the thumbs up on service, shipping and style!
