Hi all. I have not posted or checked the site for awhile but have a question. I have an 107 Ultra Classic with D&D Fatcats, arlen ness big sucker and the rest stock. Have the Thundermax auto tune. Noticed that they have a new firmware upgrade (46 I believe) and am wondering what it does. I downloaded it, but it was not a zippered file like 45 was. Will I have problems loading it to the bike?
I haven't done it yet so I'm not sure. I e-mailed Zippers and asked what the update was all about and all I got back was instructions on downloading. I read somewhere that it's basically like the previous version but more stable. I'll be doing it as soon as I stop riding...gotta take advantage of the nice days!
I followed the instructions and it downloaded fine...I did not see why I did it other then to get to a couple of ajustments that I could not get to before...
In a perhaps related vein, I rode today and when riding into a strong wind in 6th gear, I was getting a lot of pinging between 2300 and 2500 rpm or when laying into the throttle on a hill going about 66 and trying to keep it at 70. Anyone else notice this? I try to run gas between 91 and 93.
I updated the new software version and the new firmware. The firmware loaded into the
module without any problems. Bike runs great.

I did the update as well.. I had one serious problem, but it wasn't the Thundermax's fault.. A screw on the throttle body came loose just after I did the firmware upgrade and my bike started idling at 3000 rpm... Not cool.. Once I found the true source of the high idle the Thundermax with new firmware is working great.
I have an 07 SG with the Tmax and Rinehart TDs. I have never had any pinging under any conditions including the one your described. Iuse 91 octane and sometimes 87. I run the NGK iridium plugs DCPR7EIX stock
#6064.

Won't matter if it's zipped or not as long as it ends up in firmware updates . 4.6 is suppose to take care of a little glitch with the fuel low level light that 4.5 had. As for the pinging, your rpm is too low for 6th. There should be no connection to the firmware upgrade and the basic timing maps. Could be the strong headwind raised the load enough to cause detonation where normal wind and load it would work fine. Play with it a bit more to be sure before dropping the timing. Ron

Hey Ron...what glitch with the low fuel light are you talking about? The only issue I've had is losing my gauges twice.
