I want to run this past you all.
I have an 08 SG and have tried multiple times unscrewing the stock antenna so I can replace it with a shorter style for now.
I read here were the 07 SG has a set screw you loosen and the antenna just screws off.
Am I loosing it or does the 08 antenna just spin and not come off?

Mine just unscrewed...so either it didn't have the set screw or there is some other issue for you.

You may want to make sure the base is tight underneath the fender skirt thingy

It just screws off after you remove the set screw. You may have to hold it from the inside to keep from turing.

There is no set screw on my antenna.
I did however get it to work.
I cut back the rubber boot exposing a spring and pulled the stock antenna off.
Cut a piece of the shield off which exposed the threaded screw.
Screwed on short antenna and good to go. I did add some heat shrink tubing to dress it up real nice.
