I have a 2001 E gilde with it came with the 12 inch windshield but my wife does not like the look of the tall one. She saw one with the 6 inch black one and would like to get that one. the question I have what type of protection does the short one give. and what brand do you suggest we get? Thanks for the info.
I run an aftermarket 9.5" that is lightly smoked, and am very pleased with it. The short one that came with my street glide looks "cool" but is not practical on a ride. Comfort is the deal here.
I have had 4 windshields on mine looking for the right combo. I ended up with a Cee Baileys 7 inch dark and its perfect for me. You want the top edge of the windshield to be about level with your nose so you can just see over it.
I have the FastAire 6" (great product, very good price)smoked windshield and I really like it. I am 5'9 and I can see over the windshield just fine, plus I can crouch down a bit and get behind it if I had to. I also have the fairing wings and the fork baffle and with the total set up I have very minimal buffeting with either my full face or half helmet.
The other thing to consider is what seat you are running. I have a Street Glide seat and a Road Glide seat and I sit lower with the Road Glide seat, so that would make a small difference in how a windshield would perform.
I'v got a 04 EG Standard with a 6" Black Smoke windshield.
I think it has great coverage. I'm 5' 9" and have no problem
with most bugs and stuff. Wind buffetting is not an issue either.
I bought the bike from my friend a year 1/2 ago so I am not sure if its
a stock HD or aftermarket. Shouldn't matter I would think most makers
would be ok to use. I may change it out in the future for a solid black
one though cause I think it would look better and I don't look through it
anyway.
A new windshield is next on my list. I'm 6'3" and the stock windshield on my Street Glide is worthless. I don't even think it looks right. The 6" to 9" windshields look much better in my opinion and are far more functional.
