Default question for zumo 550 users

I know this subject has been covered before, but I have read page after page of information without finding exactly what I am looking for.

I got a zumo 550 today and installed it on my 08 SG. I was disappointed to learn that the motorcycle mount has no speaker and the only option I know of for audio directions is to run it through my bike's stereo.

Do you guys even care about audio directions? It's not that big adeal to me, but voice commands do help keep my attention on the road instead of looking at the screen. My stereo is always playing a cd or a fm radio station. If I run a cable from the zumo to the aux jack on the bike's radio, it will have to be on aux to hear the voice commands from the zumo, right?

I can't see myself riding around with the stereo selected to aux just waiting to hear the voice commands from the zumo instead of listening to music.

What I am missing here? Is there a way to run the voice commands through the bike's stereo while listening to a cd or the fm radio and have the voice commands to over ride the music?

Dennis

I have a Zumo and I don't use the voice commands.I would much rather listen to my MP3 discs and the voice commands can become annoying after a while.

I have a zumo 550 on a roadking classic, no radio, so I use a bluetooth headset. It works great. You could use a bluetooth earpiece to get audio, or one of those control pylons that would mux the audio. Expensive solution though.

Thanks guys. I hadn't thought of the bluetooth headset option............ that might be the way to go. It isn't very often that I want voice commands, but sometimes in a crowded urban environment it is nice.

I don't do it this way as my bike has factory XM, one option is to put all of your favorite music on the zumo 550 as mp3's, plug the zumo into aux. then you can listen to music on your stereo through the zumo mp3, it will interupt for voice direction and should make you happy.........

Thanks again guys, but after thinking it over, I say screw the voice commands. I'll be listening to my favorite tunes and enjoying the ride too much to worry about making a wrong turn now and then.

Get a 4 Gig SDHC card (under $30 on e-bay) load your favorite1000 tunes. That's the song
limit the Zumo will recognize. Then you can adjust the volume of the directions and MP3's.
Turn the volume all the way down on the directions and it will not interrupt the music. When you need
audible directions you can simply turn up the volume for directions, it will then interrupt the music.

You said that you're always playing a CD or FM when riding. Why not put your music on an SD maemory card then you can play music and when the Zumo needs to give a command you'll get that too. On long rides where the next turn may be many miles away you can switch from AUX to FM or whatever you wantthen justkeep an eye on the "Turn In" box in the lower right and switch back to the AUX when you get close.Hell, it's just a tool. It does what you tell it to.

On my Roadking Classic I took the wires into the headlamp holder and hooked them up there. Easy, simple and very little dismantling.
