I have been throwing this idea around of powdercoating the lips of my stock wheels. Leaving the little spots aluminum. What do you think? Here is a idea how it would look on a older picture of my bike. Then maybe doing the inner part of the brake disk.
Powder coating would be a much more durable solution to paint and look better longer. I like the blacked-out look. I wish I'd bought a "night train" version of the Ultra instead of all that stinking chrome. One rain shower in Florida and I'm cleaning and polishing for the the next two days instead of riding!
Hey creepy. in the past what we have done for the rotors is get tehn coated completely then take them and get tehn turned again just on the brake surface. it leave the little holes coloured as well as the centre, looks cool if you use a colour other then black. as far as the rims if you find a powder coater that is good they can do 1 of 2 things either tape off the ridges on the rim or again coat it all andf then polish the powder off again with a grinder.
I think that would look hot! Almost like beadlocks.
I wish I would have thought of that before I bought the SG wheels! [:@]
Find a good powder coater and talk to them about options with the rims. If they have to tape off the small tabs/spots they'll charge you a good buck for the labour to do it. Consider letting them coat the whole wheel and then just polish the powder off the tabs/spots. But be prepared. Properly applied powder is tough to get off.
What is tehn? Them? lol. I was thinking a guy could tape off the entire wheel and leave the polished lip to coat. I have a friend who paints and was thinking about just sanding the lips and shooting it but I didn't know if it was cleared or what on the wheel and I too was not sure about durabilty? I agree powder is the way to go. I was just thinking it would be a unique wheel with little $$$ compared to buying a rim.
I am going to look into this a little more...
Someone painted there totors black on here, now where was that link??
Righteous idea man! I am planning on having my stock SG wheels blacked out. But I really like the aluminum accent on your pic. Also Sewerat thanks for the tip on the rotors!
