Default Front brake rotors installed wrong?

A guy i work with has an 07 uc he told me the other day that his front rotors were on the wrong side, so when i got home from work I looked at my bike an 07 egc. My front rotors appear to be on the wrong sides. I looked at my dads 07 uc today and his is the same way. I have always thought that left and right were viewed from the riders position. Assuming that is correct my left rotor is marked right and my left rotor is marked right. The direction on the tire is correct, the valve stem is on the right side. Any thoughts on this? Has anybody else seen this?

Wasn't there a campaign a while back to swap the rotors from left to right to get ride of the squeel? I wonder if that would explain it? I know several that took there bikes to HD to have the rotors swapped.

I have an 06 flhti and I had the rotors swapped to alleviate some brake squeal under the maintenance announcement from Harley. Most owners opted to have them switched but you had to mention it to the mechanics so they could do the swap. I'm planning on mounting some floating rotors soon since they're much quieter than the stock rotors.

It's correct. My '07 came from the factory that way.

One of the parts suppliers that H-D used for production of the brake rotors marked them with a "L" and a "R". Turns out it doesn't make a darn bit of difference which side they are mounted on as long as you don't have two "L"s or two "R"s. On my Road King, I swapped side to side to stop the squeal when stopping and then swapped them again when the squeal started again. The final solution was floating rotors and Lyndall brake pads. ............. BC

Swapped mine and the squealing stopped for about 4000 miles. It is starting to come back.

Will changing to Lyndall pads get rid of the squealing, or do I get to keep swapping the rotors back and forth?

Yeah, I know I should get the floating rotors, but there are just so many other things already on the "to do" list. lol

If you read the factory service manual, you'll see that the rotors are supposed to be installed this way ("L" on the right side, and vice versa.)

Lyndall Z pads do away with the squeal and the brake dust on the white walls and spokes. Also stop better and that's a good thing.

I really don't think it makes a difference which side they are on as long as they are installed correctly on the wheel and torqued down.
