Default Adjustable Push Rods??

I am talking with my dealer about installing the factory BB kit (103)on my 2007 RK. I am looking at having the SE-255 cams installed at the same time. I already have a V&H Fuelpak, V&H Ovals and the SE Air Cleaner. Not looking at sqeaking out a ton of horsepower, just looking for some additional power and torque. It is my understanding that this combo will net about 85-90hp and close to 100 ftlbs of torque.

The dealer mentioned replacing the standard push rods with adjustable push rods. That would be an additional expense, but not a big one.

Is there a benefit in installing the adjustable push rodsat this point? Seems to me that this would be apotential point of failure if the lock nut comes loose, etc. I know that they make assembly and disassembly easier but I am not anticipating any other performance work.

Any other comments/experience withthis combo would be appreciated.

Dealer is talking $1900 to $2000 for parts and labor.

Thanks,

Andy

[8D]I had the big bore kit put in my 08 Ultra and kept the stock pushrods.I just did'nt see any need to replace them since the top end is coming off anyway. However I have used adj. rods before and never had any issue with them.Hope this helps. Just my $.02.

Someone will give you a more tech answer I am sure. But the way it was explained to me was it saved labor. They will cut the old rods out and use these so they do not have to break the engine down further. Not sure if that makes sense, but it did at the time.

They are only a labor saver if you are just doing a cam swap. In your case, the top end is coming off, so there is no need for them.

I would rather have solid ones for 100% peace of mind. I had one come unadjust while going down the road.

To me they look like the weakest link. I know there are lots of guys using them but they just look skinny IMO and if you don't need them, why bother?

The only times you need to use adjustables is if you are milling your heads down a lot for increased compression, then the stock pushrods will be too long to reuse. Also, if you are just doing a cam swap and don't want to take apart the top end.........the EZ install pushrods allow you to do this.

Since your build is reusing your stock heads with no work done to them, and they top end is going to be off anyways..............reuse your stock pushrods.

Keep it simple. As others have said there is no need for them at this time.

Default Adjustable Push Rod

Getting ready to put Andrews 54H Cams into my stock 2010 FLHTCU. Was going to do the 103 kit, but have had several tell me it is a wasted expense, and that the Cams will give me more bang for the buck; wait until I have 50K and need to replace the top end before going to 103.

My Harley dealer, who says he can't do the cams because of CA emissions, says that the adjustable push rods are heavy, therefore cause a lot of valve/lifter noise. Any feedback?

While the 54s will help the 96, they are a better match for a 103. There is a compression increase by going to a larger cylinder volume and squishing it into the same combustion chamber. Those 54s like around 10 to 1 compression. Your top end will still be fine at 50,000 miles, so why wait? I'd so both now and have the best of both worlds.
