Default Handlebars

I have hesitated to post this issue, because I am sure there have been a hundred others just like it. However, I feel stuck here.......

I did a search on handlebars, and saw numerous posts and suggestions on them.

I am 5'8" and seem to be always leaning over pulling on my bars. I have been debating over whether to stop by the dealer and get a price for them to install pullbacks (and whatever else is needed (cables, etc.), or to go with something else. Like http://www.khromewerks.com/, or http://www.wild1inc.com/handlebars.html.

Replace them myself? Have the dealer do it? What if I don't like them after?

Anyways, any thoughts from others that have been through this themselves (and outcome) might be helpful? I just want to get some pressure off my back, literally.

Thanks ahead of time......... sorry if this is redundant.

Have ya looked into jest loosenin' the clamps an' rollin' the bars back a tad? Might give it a try - even if it makes 'em a bit low, it'd likely tell ya how much ya need ta go back...

If you go the dealer route the pull back handle bar is only $50.00. But the cables, seeing as I was changing cable might as weel go with braided stainless, and install, might as well run the wires internal, brought the whole bill, parts and labor, to about $800.00 to bring the bars back 2.75".

I'm picking up the bike today so I'm not sure how much of a diference it'll make but considering what I have invested they will be the most comfortable handle bars ever. No matter what.

+1

I did my own pullbacks.

It's really not that hard.

I made the existing brake line work, so the remaining cables and pullback bars were around $200 if I remember correctly.

The following link shows the exact method I followed.

It worked great for me.

It's not that bad, plus you learn a lot in the process.

There is no way I would pay $700-900 to put on a $45 set of bars plus cables.

Don't get all caught up in the electrical part.

This guy in doing internal wiring which can not be done with the Harley pullbacks.

Good luck.

Hubby and I did mine. They wanted $1600 to install the wild ones on my bike. I have TBW and ABS.

Ended upwith about $400 inparts and spent about 8 hours. Done.

My bike was actaully down longer waiting for parts. Just be sure to have everything there before you start.

Biker- I just put new Heritagebars on my Roadglide yesterday, for the same reason as you. I had
a Roadking and put pullback bars on it as well. The part # for the bars I used on the Roadking is 55954-00, these will be about an inch higher and and 2 inchs further back. These worked well for me, I'm 5'9" and
should work for you just fine. No need to change any cables or wires. The results are worth it....

If you need help just E-Mail me.

Thanks for the replies so far, very much appreciated. I plan on checking out some of the links you all left.

I am letting my feet and fingers thaw out. This was my only day off this week. Rode from dealer to dealer getting quotes. 42 degrees out...... brrrrrrr!

I used to work for Ford and Nissan, for over 10 years, engines, trannys, you name it. But the bike is like my baby. That's why I considered the dealer doing it. The cables and stuff seemed somewhat intimidating.
