It's free -- GREAT. Are there any downsides to using it, i.e. anything to be cautious about for those who have used it?

I've got a second scoot to sell and this may be the way to go. I like FREE.
Craiglist is pretty good. I've sold a few of my take off parts on it. It is not immune to scammers though. As with anything you should be cautious. I have found that I get a lot of response to ads, but very few people wanting to spend any money. I also get quite a few will trade you X for your parts, with X being anything from tattoos to carpentry work.

Overall it's a good site to stay in touch with.

Craiglist worked great for me. Sold my last motorbike (Suzuki C50T) in one day at asking price. Like the simplicity of putting up your own ad and instantly its online. Added benefit is that it's free and you can relist as often as you like, if you tweak the ad a bit.

The big scams are bank checks and money orders. If you are selling my motto is "In god we trust everyone else pays cash" and thats what i stick to.

I had never used it before either, but I am a beleiver now. Last Sunday morning, I decided to sell my wife's 1st bike, a Suzuki Savage, now that she has the Sportster. I listed it on Craiglist around noon, it was sold by 1pm. I even bumped the price up a few hundred over NADA to give me some negotiating room, and the guy paid full price.

I had another 5 calls about the bike later that day. Thats more action than I ever got onselling a bike in the past... definately a believer now.I keep thinkiing I underpriced it cause it sold so fast, but checking comparables, I was evena little on the high side, I think it was just one of those freak right-place-right-time things.

Craigslist is a great service provide to us little guys that can't afford to run an expensive ad through Trader's or eBay. I've bought and sold a number of items on there with no problems. Just remember though, cash is king.

+1 on the NO personal data.... use the email that Craigslist supplies.... no phone number. there will be SOME scammers... but you'll sell everything local, so you can ignore those
"here's a check for TWICE the price... take your money out, pay for shipping, and send me the change" scams... LOL

the really good deals ga fast so check often, and move on what you want.... most of what I want, is gone before I see it.... oh well
