I just took off one of the Bridge the Gap covers from Kuryakyn since I went to true duals. I had it on for a couple of months and other than a little discoloration on the area that's clamped under the OE heatsheilds this thing is like new. If someone is interested in saving a few bucks I'll mail it to you for 18.00. The minor discoloration will not be seen once installed.
Hey Steve
I have a new 08 Ultra classic. While putting my first 1000 miles on the bike my pipes did the same as yours. I bought the "Bridge the Gap" shield and it did not completley hide the dis-colored pipe. I admit I am very **** and want a perfect looking product but I was not happy with the "Bridge the Gap" part. Asa couple guys mentioned below the Harley part looks better. It is in the catalog under Screamin Eagle. It is called "Custom Exhaust Shield" and is part number 65694-05A. It lists for $79.95 in the book.. You can probably get it cheaper thru one ofother web sites. I was much happier with thereal Harley Part for once.
Good Luck

I just bought an 08 Ultra. The exposed part of the exhaust on the right side is beginning to discolor. This is the part that is not covered by the chrome. Just wondering if that is normal. Steve
Any part of any bike of any make of any exhaust will discolor unless its covered by a heat shield or header wrap.
Basic motorcycle stuff guys......This can't be your first rodeo ...... or maybe it is (if thats the case, I wish I could have afforded a Harley as my first bike....)
Sounds like it would be worth the extra money to go with the HD shield. Was not aware of that particular shield...Appreciate the info regarding the BTG shield does not cover everything....no usethrowing that money away!
My buddy gave me his heat shield off his new 08 SE as he had Tru Duels put on after he got it home. I was surprised to see his "new" take offs on his SE were blued and discolored already. Only a few miles on them.
