Gotta agree with PR. The first ride I had on mine was on the way to Daytona for bike week (got the shield a week before leaving and the roads were solid ice). At 6'3" I was catching so much wind in my face I didn't hear my radio at all - ended up turning it off! I bought a Memphis Shades while down there and had the KW shipped home. The KW is a good quality shield that looks great, but it really fell short as far as protection. The way KW was advertising, that was supposed give me a "pocket of calm air" - NOT! Probably be selling mine too.
I'm 57 and have been riding since '73, I've never owned a bike with a windshield, untill the RG... great bike, but the windshield is about shoulder level on me. Under 70 mph everthing is wonderful.. buffering, but not killer... at 75 my head is being blown about so bad I see double...this is NOT a good thing. I've taken the windshield off the bike, and it felt perfect... looked kinda stupid without a windshield, but it FELT great.
For years, some many other riders would comment on my NOT having a windshield, saying things like " how do you hang on, without being blown off the bike" I've never really NOTICED the wind before... unless it was with an approaching storm
Last week, I orderd one of those "Laminar Lip" for the RG... it'll go on, for a 500 mile test.. if I like it, great.. there'll be a report with pictures, if not... I'm ****-canning the whole windshield, and getting a tiny, ineffective deflector..better nothing, than bobble-headed
Love the way the shield cleans up the air on mine, I am 6'4 rode several hundred miles yesterday in 30 mph winds & had allot better time than with the stock shield(buffetting) or the 8" black (no protection). It does what they say for me, no more head buffetting & I don't understand about the others I was listening to my radio just like I had the stock shield on? I will be leaving mine on for the trip to Red River now.
Well, I don't know what to say then, but mine seems to work fine and will be keeping it. I'm not sure but I think the only reason for the opposite results has to do with the riders height, because I definately like mine better than stock.
Don't buy it JUST for the wind protection. I wish they had a 14". That extra 2" might make the difference.
Noticed it does vibrate due to how thin the material is.
What I like about the windshield is the unobstructed view of the road. I'm going to run it for a while longer before I switch to my Clearview medium. I bought a Clearview blem for $135.
I'm getting really good a switching windshields. LOL
Would a 12" shield from Clearview or Cee Baileys be the same height as the Klockwerks or are they measured differently? Don't understand why 12" offers better protection from Clearview/Cee Bailey or Memphis Shades for that matter....

I think the others are taller but are still a 12" because the KW windshield's 12" includes the curve and is more laid back than the others. They work out to the same lenght, but different design.
I've got a Clearview on route. It looks like the Clearview stands up a bit more and not laidback towards the rider. The Clearview also has a curve at the top as well. It's also a little wider as well. 2" wider. The curve at the top is suppose to make the windshield act like it's 2" taller.
I like the looks of the KW's but for me,I ridemore on the highway. The design of the KW looks like it will push more wind towards me (due to the laydown design) and then rely on the lip at the top to get the wind over me.
I applaud KW's for their design, I really like it. If city riding was all I was doing, it would be my first choice. Killer looks. I also need the protection and that steered me towards the CV as well. Lots of farmers laying down mud on the roads as they come out of the fields, lots of oil patch trucks, sand a grit left on the roads from sanding trucks, bugs from said fields.
I'm not sure the KW would serve my needs. Then again, everyone's different and rides differently. If I find someone in my area, I'll see if they'll let me take the windshield for a spin.
BTW... Is that 12" measurement from the HD sig above the speedo/tach to the top of the shield?
