Just using your fairing mounted oil guage, what's everyone's read at? Are they accurate or what? Mine is on a 2002 electra glide classic. This dang thing reads that it has no pressure until i'm up to cruising speed,or crank the throttle.I check the oil regularly and it's full on the dipstick. Just looking for a little input. Thanks.
Mine does the same thing. Took it to the dealer right after I purchased it and they said it was normal. They said when at an idle the oil pressure drops are normal and at cruising speeds the pressure should go back up. Talked to several other folks who ride FLH models and they said theirs were doing the same thing, so I guess it'll be okay..."D"
yep HD's oil pressure readings are scary.
But for piece of mind I would recommend you or a trained tech,
Hookup a mechanical gauge and do a test to see.
Could have a faulty gauge or sender or weak pump / pressure relief valve.
assuming the bearings and other tolerances are fine.
But on mine running 20 / 50 valvoline semi synthetic, fully warmed up I run
about 32 to 36 on the highway and next to nothing on a sustained idle.
My 2003 ran at about 4lbs at ilde and under 20 when running down the road. Most of the other 2002-2004's I ran with were the same. When I got my 2006 it idles between 10-15lbs and runs down the road around 40lbs...My 2003 had the entire cam chest replaced at 40K. I just had my 2006 tensioners checked at 36K and they were fine. I am not sure but I thinkHD beefed up the oil pump on the 2006. I would look into it and think about a higher output oil pump..
My 04 owners manual says oil pressure is 5 PSI when warmed up (and yes....it looks close to zero on my gauge).
After reading owners manual....I feel better.
My 06 Ultra read 30 psi running down the road cold. Went to 0 at idle, hot. since new.The oil light would come on!!! Dealer said that was OK. I couldn't take it any longer, put in a Fueling pump and Baisley spring. It hasn't been hot enough to till what idle pressure will be. But now it's still about 30 at idle. It has an oil cooler on it now too. My oil pump was worn and scored. The cam shoes showed very little wear.
Glad I'm not the only one................
I get around 32 when cold, 28 warm on the highway and about 5 warm at an idle.
I'll have to check out this Baisley spring.
