I have a 07 ultra glide. The buffeting is teribble. I have tried the 8inch windshield and its worse than stock. If I go with a taller windshield I will fry in the summer. I am 6'2 whats the solution? Not happy with the ride 2 up. Seams to bottom more than I like, sometimes hard. I have made adjustments to the air shocks, a little better. I know what you are thinking and that not the problem. My wife is 130lbs. Potential solutions please? Links if you have them. Thanks Wes
I'm a couple of inches shorter than you, but the HD 9" shield is plenty tall enough for me and I feel virtually no buffeting. The wind hits right about the top of my helmet. 2-up I like about 25psi in the rear shocks. My wife is about 145 and I'm at 190.
Wes: I assume yourUltra has a fork baffle, make sure it was not omitted. At 6'1" I have my windshields hit the bridge of my nose...so my line of sight is just above the top. On my EG I put on lowers, it had a baffle,so it was set up the same as your is, and I have lowers on my RK, with a fork baffle...never any buffeting...
Try a recurve shield or a Cee Bailey shield. I use a Cee Bailey and love it. Also have the fork baffle. As for shocks, you can either replace with something like Progressive 440's or do a search for Texasbowhunter's posts on "making the stock shocks better" and see another good option.
You can also see the fork baffle on a Road Glide--in black and it's stock on the RG's; used to be stock on the EG's until about 2000 or so model year.
What kind of buffeting are your getting. I ask because I spent a lot of time riding an '08Ultra leading demo rides at my local HD store a couple of weeks ago and was surprised how little air flow there was hitting my head or my body--I'm 6'1", 200 lbs.
I purchased the Fork Baffle for my 07 Ultra and it did a great job of cutting down the buffeting. I also painted mine Black to blend in with the bike because I am not a big fan of chrome.
