I like using the silicone spray lube, it's cheap, and it really works great. If for some reason I'm out of it though, WD-40 works good too. 60K on my Road King, and it looks like new. (I've got to jump into this century, and learn how to download some pix to share.) CCRyder
I was told by a long time Harley mechanic to use WD40 on a warm engine. Get the motor warm enough so the crank is warm to the touch and douse the motor with WD and let cool. Then wash as normal and the motor is factory black and clean. Worked awesome on my Fatboy, and am trying it on my silver motor on my Roadglide.
Question for you guys using WD40, doesn't a film of WD40 on your engine attract road dirt and dust like a magnet?
-Bill-
Hi Bill,
No dust and dirt, cause WD40 isn't sticky.
I spray it on a toothbrush and apply the stuff
let it dry and that's it.
It's water repellent (no water stains after a wash)
the black on the engine looks like new.
Really works great (silicone free)
