Help Please-error code question
I just spent 30 minutes going thru the manual and could not find anything about trouble codes.
I have a carbed 05 RK.
A few days ago, 300 miles from home, I started the bike up and the front blinkers flashed twice and the engine light came on.
The engine seemed to be running fine, but I switched the ignition off, then switched it back on, waited the normal time for the engine light to go off and started her back up.
I have since logged 500+ plus miles and it has not happened again, and it seems to be running fine.
Immediately prior to to the above blinking flashers and check engine light occurence I had been in "parade" of sorts for close to an hour. However, the oil temp never got above 203 and it was 55 ambient temp.
I am hoping to find out what this meant without having to take it into the dealer.
Thanks

Be advised this only applies to the full serial data bikes............................................. ..........................
The IM (instrument module) is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic
trouble codes).
Speedometer Self Diagnostics: The speedometer is capable of displaying
and clearing speedometer, tachometer, TSM/TSSM and ICM/ECM Diagnostic
Trouble Codes (DTC).
1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.
2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.
3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button.
Background lighting sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep
its full range
and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and
cruise) should illuminate. The word "diag" should then appear.
4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection
menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.
5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The
module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move
from one letter (module)
to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S
to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module (EFI) / (Ignition Control
Module, 'Carbureted')
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer
6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the
odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any
DTC's the code will be
displayed or the word "none" will appear if there are no DTC's. Push
the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they
exist.
7 - Record the codes.
8 - If DTC's are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer
reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the
displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button (
longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up.
Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run
your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC's again by repeating
steps 1 to 9.
If the code is current it will reappear.
9 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the
next module.
10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

Carb bike don't have an ECM per se like fuel injection.
But they do have an electronic control module that does monitor
the ignition if I remember it right.
I believe they call the module ICM, but not sure.
I was not aware it had a check engine light but unless I deliberately read up on it
can't confirm yes or no.
So I would suggest you get out your 2005 service manual and read the sections on the
Carb and the ICM, then you can come back here and tell us what you found out about the system.
From your description it would appear it may have a temp sensor and being in parade mode
may have been telling you the engine was getting hot. But that is just a guess.
But it will be laid out in either the service or electronics manual for your bike.

Your t/s blinking threw a big hint. you have a tsm problem like the above post run it threw the blink test and you should find the problem most ofyou independent shops also have a scan system to futhe diag. your problem
Stro1965,
Thank you for posting these instructions. Just checked it out and the code was U1097- Loss of speedometer Serial data carb.
I have not been able to find out exactly what this means. However, I suspect it is related to the dealer having installed new intake manifold o-rings about 900 miles ago.
Thanks again.

I never asked anyone to confirm if there was a check engine light, I KNOW I have one. I see it everytime I turn on the ignition, and I stated that I had one in the original post. I am sure you did not mean to insult my ability to read or write with your comment.
As I also stated in the original post, BEFORE I posted my request for help, I had spent 30 minutes with the manual and could NOT find anything relevant. Stro1965 was kind enough to post instructions on how to read the error codes (which I could NOT find in the manual).
After doing so, I went back to the manual with the error code U1097 and looked for any information that might give me an idea of the specific incident that kicked out this code. Again, nothing. So I will be calling the dealer that replaced the intake manifold seals (under warranty), because something they did (or did not do right) probably caused this.
Finally, I never stated that the engine was in parade mode. I stated that previous to it kicking out this error code I had been in a "parade of sorts." I also stated the the oil temp never exceeded 203 and the ambient temp was only 55. This is nowhere close to the engine getting too hot (as I am sure you know).
Thanks again for your effort.
U1097 Loss of all speedometer serial data.(2007 electrical diagnostic manual) There was data but lost on key cycle on / off. Restart engine and see if any codes come back
