I just took it easy on mine for 500 miles. Just try to do what the manual says. Vary your speed.Don't lug it.I don't really ever ride like I stole it any way.

Manual says keep the bike under 4000 rpms each gear 1st 50 miles and under 5000 rpms the next 450. Do not lug the engine. I granny shifted mine the first 50 and now am riding relatively normal just not revving too high. I have about 250 miles on my Heritage.

I did like BarJBar said "Manual says keep the bike under 4000 rpms each gear 1st 50 miles and under 5000 rpms the next 450. " I picked up my bike with 20 miles on it. I have no idea how the first 20 miles were ridden; but after I pulled out of the dealers, and I felt the bike was warmed up, I did the 30 to 60 mph at full throttle in third gear - full acceleration (i.e. wide open throttle to 60 MPH then totally off the throttle) (RPMs stayed under 4000) for 10 times and then rode home. After I got over 50 miles on the odometer, I went on the Interstate and kept RPMs between 3000 and 5000, varying RPMs by selecting the appropriate gear.

I am of the opinion ride it like you would if it had 20,000 miles on it. That being said I don't think banging the rev limiter the first 50 miles is a good idea. When i picked up my 08 I just rode it like I had already owned it for a year, didnt think anything of it. I think I hit 80mph within a mile of leaving the dealership. Don't baby it, but don't rape it like others have already said.

Break in the bike by the book, not committee. If something should gowrong and you didn't follow the book, who are you going to call when your warranty claim is rejected?
One question for you, how are they going to know how you broke it in? There is no possible way!!!
