I agree with the majority. I have a fatboy and an Ultra. The Ultra is for our longer trips, but when I first got it, that is all I rode for 2 months, including in town. I think it is great and would be fine with it being my only bike. I would also pick it over the SG, just for the reason, you already have a tourpack painted to match that can be made removable and have a smoother looking bike. My take on it.
Wow, great responses , thanks. I did talk to the dealer about a removal mount for the tour pack and it seemed reasonable. Took my wife to se the bike and of course she looked at both and saw the seat on the EG and the seat on the SG. Of course she liked the EG.
My decision has been made.
I understand how you feel. I always wanted a Night Train and the wife wouldn't ride on it until I swapped the seat out and installed a backrest for her. I should have just bought the EG like she originally wanted. Now I am doing just that in a month when I return. You have to keep them happy.
Go for the Ultra. If you get a Classic after a while you will wish you had gotten an Ultra.
I wanted the extras that the Ultra has...if i had to choose between the Classic or a SG, I'd get the Classic for the same money - you can remove the tourpak, change the windshield easily, etc. to give it the SG look.
I have a classic and love it. I do have removeable trunk that I take off when crusing around town. You could also change out the seat, all done with ease.
hello.............my vote goes for the ultra roadglide,
great around town, and you get all the bell's n' whistles too.
very very eazy to get around town on, my roadglide is a wee bit better in town than my goldwing,
you just caint beat a dresser for just about everything you do.
Rick,
Most PD's, especially city PD's opt for Road Kings over any other bike. In my state BMW gave away , as in for free, about 900 free bikes to local PD's. Within 2 years most of them were gone and back with HD's. The reason, the incredible balance and handling for a large bike. My wife has a VStar1100. When doing a tight u-turn I often have to put my foot down for balance. On my RK I can do a u-turn at 1 mph with both feet on the boards. Don't sweat a bagger around town, I'm sure you will be impressed.
I'm on my second Ultra after a Classic, both are great bikes I just like the extra's on the Ultra. But to answer you question I use my Ultra for short trips and errands around town with no problems what so ever.
