Hi, I am considering buying an Electra Glide Classic and have read many posts about their comfort on long rides but how are they around town? Is this too much bike for short rides. I will hopefully be going for longer weekend rides but want to have fun in town too. I was seriously thinking street glide, but read about removal of the tour pack and it seems for the money I'll get more with the classic. I a moving up from a 82 xl 1000. Thanks, rick
From one Rick to another, try 660 miles in a day. We did and were still able to walk. My wife can fit more in my bike than most people can put into a Volkswagon. We like it around town also. No problems.
I have four bikes. A Springer, Road King Classic, Big Dog (soon to be gone), and an Ultra. My Ultra, as you can see from the pic below, is pretty stripped down. All that being said, I can be ready for a long haul in about 5 mins. As for mentioning all the other bikes, I did so to point out, they all set in the garage, and even if it's just a run downtown, I'm on the Ultra.
It is a bear around town esp. if the saddlebags and trunk are full, the most weight being the trunk. On the other hand the street glide is one sweet ride anytime, anywhere!!!!
I ride to work everyday and it makes it about a 40 mile trip. I have to stop and start as I go all the way through town and haven't had a problem at all with the weight of the bike. I actually doesn't feel as big as it is when you're riding the glide. I really think it handles well no matter what the riding your doing is.
Been riding dressers since 1995. They are NOT a "Bear around town". They work well anywhere. Plenty of room for groceries. I think you'll like the classic!!!!! It's more bike for the money than a streetglide.
I have no problems with in-town riding, even two-up which I can't say for the '05 BMW LT which is really top heavy. I think you'll really like it no matter where you ride.
