I went out and bought the riders backrest #52572-03 for my new 08 Ultra. Now, I installed the backrest on my 2000 Ultra and a blind man could have done that.I pull the seat on the 08 and said oh sh*t where does this bracket go. After study it for a while, the only thing that I came up with was either it was the wrong one or I'm supposed to mount the bracket to the fender. (there's 2 bolts there) I looked at the instructions and there's nothing in there for my year of bike.
I'm hoping someone here has installed this and can help this blind man..
Thanks!
I have never used that braket, just mounted it to the fender bolts, that are supplyed. I have never had a problem without that little bracket and I am 6-1" and 230lbs. Doc
I'm not sure if this is the same backrest that i have on my 07 but if your dealer is half as good as the guy's at my dealership the service dept will give you all the details to put it on the bike. mine was dealer installed at the time of purchase (I'm mecanically challenged) anyway give the a call
That's where it mounts (on the fender)I just put one on. the instructions are veryvague but it's in there. the black bracket bolts to the main bracket (gold one)then to the frame with the clip nut that slides over the frame.
The backrest bracket (gold) that came in the kit slides over the 2 studs coming out of the rear fender and attaches with the 2 nuts. You don't need to worry about the front tab of the bracket screwing into anything because with the other 2 bolts tightened down it's not going anywhere.

I 2nd that. I put the same riders back rest on my 07 SG. No bracket and I have put 2k + miles on her with no problem, just the occasional bolt and nut check at oil cahnge times, as the backing nut on the fender is a hi density plastic not metal.
