Default Adjustable rider backrest

Hello Everyone,
I'm thinking of adding an adjustable rider's backrest to my 06 FLHT/I and have a few questions. In the big Harley wishbook it looks like the adjustment control is made into the seat. Is this correct ? If not ,how is the adjustment control mounted ? Will this work with my stock seat ? Is it worth the extra $100.00 over the manually adjusted rider's backrest kit ?
Thanks,
capt42a

I have an 05 EG Classic - I put the adjustable one on mine - There is a cable that runs from the backrest and you run it under your seat and attach it just under the gas tank on the left side - The install instructions are easy and it can done by a novice cause that's what I am! I think the 100 extra was well worth it because on longer rides you can adjust your position various ways - A big help in my case - Some say set it and forget it but I love having the option to move it around

I leave mine in the same position all the time. It is so comfortable I never ride without it. Just have the standard rest with the screw in back.

I like the adjustable. Yes, I think it is worth the extra. At least you know it will fit you.

I adjust mine all the time. It depends on how many jackets I'm wearing, how much support my back "needs", and sometimes just a little change in position will help.

Love mine as well. My control lever is mounted on the frame (I think) just under my standard seat on the left hand side. I sure miss it when I have it removed for when I'm giving rides and I'm going 1 up somewhere. Example of that: My wife and I rode 2 up to Tucson, but when we visited her Father and were going to lunch, she rode with him in his cage and I followed behind on the Ultra. I was sure missing the backrest for that short ride.

I have the standard one which has several positions you can mount it in. With the several positions you can set it to where it is comfortable and leave it there. I like things simple the more moving parts the more there is to brake. I love having the back rest though when I have dual seat on, otherwise I ride with my solo seat.

Not trying to hi-jack the thread,
Bountyhunter, how are those highway boards? Do they look overly large in person?

thanks,

I've read where some feel the standard is too upright, not enough adjustment to the rear to make it comfortable. Anyone with the standard backrest have this problem?

I love my backrest. My bike is more comfortable than any chair in my house!
