My 98 ultra, sometimes the starter just clicks, we put a boost to it and she fired up. Rode home and now she is starting all the time. when shut off volts at 12.8 running 13 to 13.5.
Could the starter have a dead spot? Just want to fix or replace what ever the peoblem is.
Very frustrating, any help very much appriciated.
Thanks[&o]
Try cleaning the battery connections and make sure everything is clean and tight. Had a similar problem on my 07 SG, found a loose connection and now she starts up just fine.

Your battery seems to be dead.
Around 2000 rpm you should have 14 to 14.5 volts.
Your starter should be ok if it starts with a boost. As others have said, clean and tighten all connections and if the battery is over 3 years old, replace it.
+1 what big peter said. You might also check your idle rpm--if it's too low and/or you have a lot of electrical goodies your alternator may not be charging as fast as you're draining.
Like everyone has said, check your conections, especially the grounds and your connections at the starter, then go from there. You can have the battery tested to see if thats the problem, but I would agree with everyone to check your connections first.
The battery is a HD not a year old, had it in the house with trickle charge.
I will test volts with meter at 2000 rpm i could have been off a little.
Most certainly i will check all connections.
How would i test the solenode?
