...I could save a bundle and get a stereoless batwing. Just a thought.
It's called an Electra Glide Standard- it has the batwing, no stereo, no tour trunk. Looks like a Street Glide with a taller windshield. It's a dead sexy ride and the low price makes it even better...
MountainKowboy, I went the same route, lest the rack off the King TP, like the smooth look, also have not installed the lowers yet, any real benefit having them?
I was recently in the market to get a new bike and after several months research I narrowed it down to either a Road King or a Street Glide. Love them both but bought the Glide, mainly because of the fairing. Better protection, variety of shield inserts available, stereo, and better gauges. If you don't plan on doing any touring, the RK was attractive to me for the ability to take the shield off but you hardly ever see anyone do it other than for a quick run to the local beverage outlet of choice.
Talked to a couple guys with detachable fairings. Both said they take the fairing off when running around in town and on short trips. To each his own. My intention is to only use it for medium to long distances. I love having the wind in my face on short trips too much to go with and EG or SG.
me and a few buddies went to laughlin. at every stop we would swap bikes just for the fun of it (500 miles one way). after he road my street glide for about 100 miles in the cold breezy air, he hada wing installed on his road king at the rally.
So how much do you have to spend for a tour pak, aftermarket batwing and lowers? And my hearing sucks, how do do hear a Cd playing? I've actually had to go to helmetswhich cover my ears because I get ringing so bad. I think it's from those loud concerts when I was a teen. sometimes I waer a full face for the quiet. Why not stck IPod earplugs in.I could save a bundle and get a stereoless batwing. Just a thought.
Its taken me 2 years to "gather" the parts, I dont have alot of money so I have to do things on a budget. Every acc. that I've added to my bike pretty much came from ebay. I have $350 into my tourpac, the lowers were $500, and I bought the DCC fairing for $1100. It seems like alot of $$$ to some, but then I have alot of options as to which bike I feel like riding from day to day. If you already have the RK and you like it............................dress it up for long distance, its WAY cheaper than buying a new bike!
Mountainkowboy... how does the aftermarket batwing compar to factory? Does it rattle or anything? It is really expensive to make a tourpak on an Ultra detachable too. Maybe the RK is the way to go. BTW, did you check out those Quadzilla batwings?
I have a RK Custom with a 17" Clearview and I do not get head buffeting at speeds up to 100 mph (fastest I have been so far). I just rode about 200 miles on I-10 in west TX (80 mph daytime speed limit) cruising at 80 with heavy cross wind and was very comfortable. My favorite music (exhaust notes) was sounding sweet.
