I'm getting a 'buffet' (for lack of a better word) that is really a very sharp, hard, stacatto helmet shake that I'm convinced is caused by the vibration of the stock shield on my RG. The shield vibrates like crazy at 40+ and I'm sure causes the turbulence I'm getting. I can grip the shield with my left hand when it happens and the 'buffet' goes away. I'll bet that a thicker, stiffer shield would solve a lot of these problems.
Well the guys who pointed out the 6" shield appear to be the overall winners. Put the stock shield back on and it does reduce a lot of my issues. I didn't leave it on very long when I bought the bike 2 years ago, so I've dealt with the buffetting for quite awhile. I do wear a helmet and because I wear a full when I'm on my non-Harley bikes I've gotten into the habit of wearing a full when I ride my glide. With a half helmet and the stock shield the buffetting is almost zero, so I guess I've just gotta put away my full faces when I ride the harley.
i have the road king and i sit above the shield. with a helmet on its dang near impossible to see anything due to my buffeting. even when i wear a hat backwards its still tough. but no hat no helmet its perfect. been thinking of a taller shield but i dont think i would like the look of it.
The HD 9 1/2" shield and the adjustable fairing deflectors works very well for me. And I also feel less buffeting wearing 1/2 helmets with no or small visors. I can see over the windshield very well.

Are you wearing a helmet?
If so, have you tried a different one?
If not wearing a helmet then ignore this post.
Was going to say the samething. Also do you wear glasses?
I had the same problem with my RK. I borrowed a 3/4 helmet with face shield problem solved. Now I'm looking for a pair of fitovers that seal good with vents.
