I think it is time for people to grow up.I have been stereo typed for years, people look at me and say, "oh my look at that guy he is big and tattooed he must be a biker!" And they mean that in the most begative way. I just cannot belive that people are still sooo shallow. I mean come on it is 2008 and people are still judging the book by its cover. I have been around the block a time or two and I agree with what others say, sometimes I just wish people would leave me alone. I love the people that come up and say, I have always wanted a Harley, my response is simply then go buy one! You always get a look when on a bike wether you are a lawyer, doctor or police officer or what ever you do, people are assume that you are a thug on a HD...
Grow up america it is 2008!
Just my .02
The family I grew up next to had two older sons who were bikers. Did their own fab work in the garage. It was not unusual to see 6 or 8 awesome customs in the driveway. Somedays 100 or so friends would meet up. Everyone loved it.
Now as an adult and rider I've watched movies and all the documentaries but I still don't get it. Figure it's the same people who want to ban pit bulls in their city.
I don't know about those CMA guys. I heard they stripped a guy down to his shorts, nailed him to some wood and left him on a hill. They're probably some kind of cult.
I have been on both sides, one Memorial day holiday wife just has to try out the new RV so we find a conservation area with camping no facilities on a nice small river thinking not many people here, roll in thurs night late, set up camp friday, couple of bikes roll in ask if we had any issues with "bikers" - no we ride no issue - well there ended up being somewhere around 100 or so "bikers" all jambed in this small camping area. If we were "normal" citizens we most likely would have ran for our lives - save the women and children!!! We are not "normal" so we stayed and had a great weekend socializing with the group, and ended up bringing home about 15lbs of marinaded deer meat cause they didn't want to haul it home. Was kinda fun watching them negotiate a very slick concrete water crossing. Also been out riding and been sat in a "secluded" room in a resturaunt and some what ignored. The wife enjoys when other ladies waiting in line for the bathroom let her go first cause shes a "biker"
Well, guess what, some people have a perception of "bikers" based on a single, unfortunate experience or, can you believe it, a movie! True, a huge majority of us or OK, but perception is everything. My bro-in-law and sister are ultra-conservative, but when they show up at an upscale retail store with their chaps and jackets, the looks they get are....well....interesting. The Hollister, CA legend will probably never die. Hollister happened over 50 years ago, yet the image of a biker is still alive and well in the minds of those that know nothing about bikes or the people that ride them. Actually, truth be known, I'd bet the 1% ers are really pissed that they have lost so much of the bad a$$ image because of the 100's of thousands of quite normal people that just like to ride HD motorcycles.
I travelled with my 15 year old daughter last year on a 3k trip. The only thing I said to her before we went was "watch this, everyone wants to talk to a biker" You can pull up to fill up your car and the other people there won't say a word. Pull up on your bike and everyone will talk to you. My daughter could not believe it. I think most people ar curious and just testing to see if you will bite!
