Update now is that they are waiting for the title to come in???? I am still waiting to hear from the owner, since he was one who I also dealt with for the sale. The "parts" guy isn't even sure if they started working on it since the title isn't in. WTF.
The owner was in back uncrating more bikes...Told"parts" guy I need a call tonight!! They close at 6m but said I expect a call tonight anytime. I am also out of town or I would be handling this face-to-face.
Is this common to wait for title and then work on bike???
Thanks...
Yes & no....... Titles are usually sent in a separate package (not in the crate), but this is an area where I've seen some shady dealing. Most places (don't know about your state) the dealer can sell you the bike & hang a temp tag as long as he has the vin, & get the paperwork done in a few days. The shady part comes from unscrupulous dealers using things like this to delay delivery or add to costs. If his story keeps changin', I'd be suspicious.
Since you're out of town you might wait for his promised call & see if he handles the situation in a reasonable manor & if the bike will be ready by the time you return. If he doesn't call, or trys to make you feel bad about wanting your bike, or changes his story again, then the others here might be right. Take your money to a dealer that wants you as a customer. You're the man with the money. You deserve a polite, reasonable response to any question you have. If they aren't polite & honest before they get your money, think of how they'll treat you after they have it..............
Are you sure they aren't waiting for your full payment to prep the bike? When I bought mine, I put a deposit down to hold the bike but they would not put on the accessories until I signed the final paperwork and paid for the bike in full.
As for the title, that sounds a bit odd. Usually, they put a dealer tag on it and send the paperwork into the county or state to get plates and title issued just like they do on a car.
Sounds like BS to me. Something else is going on.
My son's new Ultra came in yesterday in the box. He is picking it up at 9:00AM tomorrow.
He had them put on some stufflike radar, GPS, detachable hardware, and docking station.
Some other minor stuff. They also had other bikes to do also. I guess it truly depends on how many qualified
tech's theyyour dealer has. I would tell them that you expect it right away or your money back.
As far as the VIN number thats there problem. The INS. guy can always change that. NO big deal.
Its now after 6:00 P.M. Est. Have you heard from them? I'd stay calm as ice. I'm sure something positive can come from keeping a level and cool attitude about it.
I generally like to give anyone enough rope before they hang them selves.
I know for a fact when I bought mine there was no title made. They did show me a certificate of origin or build? But not a title. I paid cash and 3 hours later I was on the road on the new bike. The title got mailed from the state not the dealer.
She's worth waiting for...She's pure puzzy......But if you can't wait, then do this:
Could be they are waiting on the mods to arrive......I'd ease in and take the salesman by the elbow and quide him thru all involved till I got the whole story....Just walk him thru everyone involved from the service and parts guy all the way to the salesmanager.....One trip thru should reveal who's dropping the ball of if there is a legit bottleneck.....if they are simply waiting on parts, then insist they service the bike and allow you to return for mods install.
Got the call back from owner and I am a bit more satisfied. He stated that the title is not in and if it does not arrive by Monday it will be overnighted. He said it has to be 10 days before he can have it sent overnight. It is coming from HD. I am in NY so I am not sure if I can just ride off w/o title. When the title comes he said I am first on the lift on Monday or Tuesday and will(fingers crossed) be on the road by Wednesday... Just can't wait. The cold is still here Wecroft but snow gone and as you may know, not many days left until it flies again
Well, if they didn't have the title paperwork that would explain it. They can't release the bike without it. Sounds like they're doing all they can for you.
