Newbie here.....I've FINALLY decided to buck up and buy me a Road King Classic. I've made maybe a dozen calls in the So. Cal. area, and prices are all over the map. The best I've gotten is MSRP plus all the shipping and and standard stuff, but with a $600 prep fee. With tax (7.25%) the total comes out to right at $20,500 with the security system. They offered 10% off acc. and thats about it. I'de sure like to do better, but it's not looking good. Some dealers I call give me prices in the 21500-24000 range. I tell 'em how high they are, and get a laugh and a rude response back. Most don't seem to give a crap. I WILL say that the dealership with the lowest price has also been very nice about everything, so if I don't find better, I'll be going there.
Anybody have any luck doing any better?
Got my '05 RK Classic from L.A. HD 2 weeks ago. MSRP + approx $500 that was it. Very easy to work with. No Games. They are located in South Gate, CA. Off of 105 Fwy. Approx 15 minutes east of downtown L.A.
The bike I'm looking at at -
Bike- silver pearl--$17645
Security------------$275
Ca. emission------$100
Freight-------------$270
total----------------$18290 + tax =$19616.03.......that's what I'de REALLY like to pay. I can understand a small doc. fee and such, but it should STILL be less than $20,000 IMO, not the $20,500 that is the LOWEST price I've found.
In basic color (vivid black), stock with security system it would have been $20,100 out the door. (I just called them to confirm that pricing). I had a bunch of stuff added but from my research at the time the 10% discount on adders is about average for So. Cal. Good luck and let me know what happens. P.S. I love my RKC. Couldn't be happier.
That was the absolute best I could find. Like you I put up with a lot of dealers with lots of junk fees tacked on. Can't say they are the absolute cheapest but they were the lowest I came across after a lot of calls and visits. Also my price was based on 8.25% sales tax for LA County resident. If your local tax rate is cheaper your price will be lower also of course.
I got my RKC at San Diego Harley Davidson in early February. Here's the deal I got:
Smokey gold and vivid black two-tone paint-$17,895
HD factory security system- 275
California emissions- 100
Freight- 270
Sales tax at 7.75%- 1440
License fee- 172
Documentation fees- 45
That comes out to $20,152.
They also had a $610 set-up fee. I told them I would pay $21,000, but I wanted the sundowner touring seat, detachable driver backrest and detachable passenger backrest included for that price. Total for these accessories plus tax is $825 plus the two hours they say it takes to install it all comes to just shy of $1000. We settled on $21,150. That covered the cost of my accessories and killed the $610 set-up fee.
