I brought my home from the dlr in the winter on a trailer and it seems like I put the soft ties on the crash bar close to the frame, up by the fairing brackets.

Big Cholla has some good advice for trailering, the key is get a good sturdy Front Wheel Chock, after that the rest is easier.

You can get some very nice ones for big bucks or you can get a good sturdy one that is not quite so fancy at Harbor Freight for somewhere close to $40. I have two and they are pretty sturdy.

For those who say NEVER trailer a bike I feel envious that you never have to consider anyone but yourself and maybe one other whenever you travel. You are truely blessed.

Butthere arethose of us who have families and may need to take along 3, 4, or maybe even more others with us when we travel it is nice to know there are such things out there to help out with the job.

If you aint helpin maybe just move along peaceable, nothing here you want to see.

Gentleman, Thanks for the pointers. They ALL will come in handy.
Since I've nothing to hide, you might as well know that YES, I have a wife, and 2 daughters who go with us every year to Rolling Thunder. With 2 daughters, there just aint enough room to fit all there stuff!!
Anyone with kids knows that.
Also, My kids have been attending RT every year for the past 5 years. When they see a vet, they proudly go up and thank them for what they have done. It is the VET to thank for why we are free..let us not forget thoes who have payed the ultimate sacrifice for this great country of ours.
Pretty soon my 16year old daughter will be riding herself. Perhaps then we can park the trailer more!
Hope to see all y'all at rolling thunder this year.

HD ties them down at the engine guard to TRAILER them to the dealer. I've had occasion to trailer my 07 RG about 450 miles in poor weather (fog is bad enough in a cage, worse on a bike on I-5) and I chocked the front wheel in a Pingel chock, and used soft ties over the engine guard inside of the fairing mounts.

Remember, though, REAL BIKERS ride everywhere - and they stay off the Internet.........

I use the Power Tye's with the soft ties built in, wrapped around the engine gaurd and frame.
Kind of a figure eight type loop back towards the hook to the front.
Hook the left side first, snug not tight while(bike)still on the jiffy stand.
Move to right side (front), do the same, tighten till bike is upright, off jiffy stand by 1/2" or so.
Adjust left side as needed to put some pressure on front end.
Move to rear wrap ties around passenger floorboards pulling towards rear of trailer, making ties tight.
Worked for me on my trip from Seattle to Vegas to Wichita.
Unloaded bike three times to ride. Never moved an inch. Checked everytime I gassed up.
Loosened the front right tie at night when I stopped to release pressure on suspension.
Made sure to retighten in the morning before starting out.
Don't forget to disable alarm (if equipped) otr throw key in with bike while moving.

I use a Condor trailer chock which will hold the bike upright and secure, then use tie-downs on the engine guard and passenger footboards. Works well on my Road Glide on my open trailer. I find that I don't need to tighten the tie-downs too hard - just enough to provide support and compress the forks and shocks just a little bit. The Condor chock really adds some stability and support.

I've found if I put a piece of 2x6under the jiffy stand to make the bike stand up straighter, then it is easier to put the straps on it. If you can, put a wood block on both sides of the front wheel. Start by Putting Hog ties around the front legs above where the fender bolts on. and on the rear at the passenger floorboard mounting point. Or if yours doesn't have a mount there, that mounting hole for them are 3/8-16 thread. Any hardware store will have heavy eye bolts that will screw in there for a secure mounting point. For what it's worth, I trailer mine whenever I can. I take it with me when working out of town or state. Makes a good secure garage at night. I've yet to find a way to put a 250# roll around toolbox and 2 weeks cloths on a bike .

Great info... Glad I found it. I was wondering how to safely tow a RG. It's setup much different than my Fat Boy was.

Man, I guess I'm a dweeb, cause I have to trailer my new RG next week to get home in Missouri from Virginia... I have ridden my *** off this year on the Fat Boy I just traded and would love to ride my RG for 1000 miles to Missouri... However, the RG doesn't have the towing capacity to pull an F-350...

When I have had to trailer my bike, this is how I tie it down.
