I know this may sound strange, but I am having trouble with mice getting in my fairing and chewing the wires. I have tried everything I can think of and cannot keep them out. I keep my 07 Ultra in a shed kind of like a barn, and yes I live in the country. Does anyone have any suggestions? Loike I said I have tried traps, poison and have not had any luck. Its driving me crazy. I have already had to replace the wires for my lighter and my left frount speaker.
Move, store the bike in a rodent secure area or borrow one of your friends cats for a few days. (That is if you can't find a big snake to stick in the fairing.)
Get a cat. A natural mouser should love the situation and clean it up nicely. If you don't want to keep a cat there are places that rent them. Yes, a friend of mine here in NYC had a mouse problem in her apartment and nothing an exterminator or the landlord did helped. She rented a cat for 2 weeks, no more problem.
Mice can get through an opening as small as 1/4" so you will have to seal up the shed as tight as you can.
Create at least a three foot perimeter of stone or gravel around the shed. Don't give them any vegitation to hide in or burrow under.
Do not keep any type of seeds in the shed like grass or bird.
Place your traps againstthe wall use peanut butter.
Get some Contrac Block bait and some bait stations. Contrac is overcounter Home Depot or an Agway store should have it.
Get some Moth ***** under the cover. Hang some in a bag on or in the fairing. Mice don't like the smell. PLace them around the inside perimeter of the shed.
Clean up any clutter in the shed. Boxes, crates etc. Don't gtive the mice anywhere to nest or hide.
The more traps and poison out the better.
Keep kids and pets away from the bait.
If there is electric available, I have used the high frequency devices that you can buy at Home Depot to keep rodents out and they worked for me but you could also try to circle the bike with double stick tape the kind you put under rugs and that should keep them from walking over the tape to get to the bike.
You may find this silly andhard to believe, but.... Place Irish Spring soap on and around your bike. I have been told that the mice will not go where they smell the sent of this soap. I havedone thiswith cars andbikesthat I have storedfor the winter. Ihaven't had a problem with mice bothering them.........................Nock on wood[/align]
