To all this was started as a solution not a bitch. Look at the facts not here say. How much are you paying for the shirt made in the USA? Now how much is the made in china t-shirt? At the HD dealer not much more than a couple of dollars. People wake up, you are not looking at hard data. Certain things need to be produced over seas. We are talking about parts that are already on the production line. All I wanted you to all look at can it be made here? Sure it can. It's not the union wage( atFord the union cost of a vehicle is 3%) the advertisement budget is 60%. Can it beabout the profit. Instead of $10 in profit lets hire more management and go to china to pay for the extra jobs. Botom line is we all need to think about the future. If all the jobs are over seas what are we going to do to earn a living in the USA? Are we fighting a war for freedom? What type of government is CHINA? Oh thats right. Lets quit being cheap and take all the prisioners and dead beats in this country and make them earn there link /welfare money by making my Harley parts LOL.

It's not just a union or not situation.

Our standard of living has been SO MUCH better than most of the rest of the world for so long that our decline is inevitable. And really, we're not in decline so much as the developing nations are on the rise. And they're on the rise because we're too rich as a nation to build our own products.

No one here wants to work for 50 cents a day making plastic trinkets for Happy Meals or shock absorbers for Harleys. But other places folks will do whatever it takes to get our money and live a better life.

There really is no solution. The have nots will do what they have to do to "have." Peacefully or not.

"Who allowed HD to sell these products?" I hate to tell you this bub, but the market dictates it. HD dealers, just like many other businesses have to stay price competitive or YOU simply would not buy their products. (have you ever heard of a small chain of stores called Walmart?) You are wasting your time asking for us all to boycott HD dealers because they carry China products. If you want to back up your feelings with action, then like many of us, only buy from companies that only sell American made products. If enough of us do that HD will get the message, but in the real world that ain't going to happen.

If you want to buy ALL AMERICAN, don't buy HD. You have choices out there. Any of the custom biuilders out there will be glad to sell you an ALL AMERICAN bike for say $60,000+. We have been in a global economy for more than 25 years, it is the way of business. There is no turning back.
Consumers will alwaysseek to buy the best products at the best prices. If they happen to be an American products, believe me you don't have to scream or shout, people will buy them. If you really don't want any foreign components in your purchase, you better not buy any products from Dell, Microsoft, Apple, HP, GM, Ford, Chrysler, etc. Come to think of it you better not fly inBoeing jets or rideHD motorcycles either.
A better arguement ishowdo we as American make ourself more competitve in term of quality, innovation and value such that everyone else around the globe will want to have American components in their foreign products.
So, I'm confused. Is this a union bashing post or a lesson in globalization? Really, you need to just research a little business and finance 101 and it will all be clear. What I will enlighten you with is it won't be all that long before we are not seeing as many items made in China. Why? Because they are emerging as a global economy. As they make more money and their standard of living goes up, so do the prices. Hmmm, kinda sounds like the good old US of A? Soon, your parts will be coming from India, the next emerging economy, then look for Vietnam and that are to foollow shortly.

Fox Creek leather. Made in a NJ factory. Much better than that chit hanging ont he H-D dealers wall.

Union? I could care less, all they ever did for me was take my money. I never got anything else from them other than be treated like a number. I know they served their purpose, but those days have long past.

The problem ain't whether or not a company is signatory to a labor agreement.

One problem is companies driving blindly toward the profit margin and the shareholders and board of directors letting them do it.

And yes, the consumer has a hand in it too.

Each of us does not want to pay one penny more for anything than we have to. So we want lower prices. Welll the companies and the shareholders want a reasonable return on their investment so they have management look for low cost suppliers. Most of whom are in China, Honduras, Guatemala, or wherever.

The US is no longer the "Arsenal of Democracy". One of the main reasons the US could respond to the demands of WW II is by being able to have its multitude of factories and manufacturing plants retool for war production.

We have sold our defense to the Chinese.

And each one of us who continues to purchase imported products contribute to the problem.

Here is an example. Wife just came home from a vacation and had stopped at a Harley dealer in Indiana. She brought back a small aluminum flashlight with a leather belt attachment.

Says right on the box. "Made in China". Open it up and it is a cheaply made knockoff copy of a Mini-MagLite. For those of you who do not know it, MagLite products are made in USA.

If I was MagLite I would be sueing the pants off HD and their supplier for patent infringement.

Pull the covers off your HD and you will find many parts made overseas. The speakers on the touring line are from China. The front brake switch on my 03 Heritage came from Spain.

But the only one that really concerns me is China. She is the new sleeping giant.

40+ years ago a guy named Buckminster Fuller predicted in his book "The World Game" that all this would take place, including how. I took design courses by him at So. Ill. U. back in the early '70s and admit most of it went over my head. Looking back I can see how prophetic he was. Worth the read if the global economy is of interest to you.

To all :
I'm sick to my stomach,, I recently purchased a 06 Ultra Classic. Is this notthe greatestAMERICAN MADE Motorcycle assembledby UNION EMPLOYEES??????Last Saturday after my bike purchaseI ventured out to my my local HD store to be slapped in the face by the CHINESE again. What the hell,, why are weall letting HD sell this crap? This company needs to hear us all loud and clear. Let the owner know youwill not buy another CHINESE add on part period. I wanted to purchase a nice leather jacket for my GF and myself approx $700.00 dollars worth of made in China ****. Is there a reason that every HD store allows a great bike to be sold in the same store as this GARBAGE? Who allowed HD to sell these products?80% of the jackets and add on accessories aremade in CHINA.Are there any companies in this country HD can contract with? You bet there is, SPEAK up my fellow Americans. Do we want to replace steak with a bowl of Rice? Keep allowing HD to sell you parts and clothingmade in China. Watch as more HD employees get laid off.Can we all get together and stop thisbefore they start building the bikes inCHINA "HELL YES WE CAN".

Brooks is a company that makes leather here in the USA.Might there be a reasonHD can not contract with companies that make there products here. If we all send a letter to the CEO asking him what are you doing things will change the first is his job. Maybe if we tookhis 10,000,000 dollar CHINESE bonusaway things would change. If you are reading this and think we can't change this problem you are MISTAKEN. Start speaking up, start making posters at the HOG meetings ask the person in the store with you why are we buying this crap. Watch how quick HD gets the word.Lets all ban together and force HD to be "AMERICAN" they will listen. Maybe the CEO is Chinese LOL.......
And why don't you call Harley and tell them to stop selling their motorcycles in China while you're at it. Time to make a stand if you feel it is necessary.

You'd better sell you bike now. It has tons of foriegn parts in it.

I buy what ever I like best from whomever makes it. It usually comes down to quality and price. And before you tell me to go and make my money overseas...... I do make most of my money overseas. We are a global economy and many of us do bring the Yen, Peso, Yuan,Rupeeand whatever other currency back here!
