that looks much more stable than before...u would think this would be a recall item for HD or al the least a reason for them to fix a design flaw. No. they had rather you spend another 50$ on the part and have the HD shop spend 3+ hours replacing.
Good going on the repair job. I bet it wont break as fast the next time.
It IS a warranty item...I just did both of my brackets off my 2006 streetglide,
I have all the fairing off for paint, so I just took them into th Harley shop..At first they told me they had tohave the bike to do the exchange under warranty, but I explained that I was saving them lots of work, and the bike was not mobile.
They agreed and I exchanged the two bad brkts. for new..Very easy process, just tell them it IS warranty.
Hopefully I can figure out how to post pics after I get the "X" done..It WILL be sweet.

I'm having mine replaced as I type this. I also ordered two extra sets and am going to see what I can do about strengthening them at the obvious weak points. I've talked to a friendto see whatwe can do about getting something fabricated that's a lot more durable.
Nt sure if over engineerng them is the right way to go guys.
I have seen someplace on the WWW the where the brackets connect to the innerfairing and it breaks there.
Not saying it will happen or it wont happen, but just some food for thought.
I'm still avoiding opening my fairing and attacking it till days off, then again I have been saying that for a month now.
Thanks for the pics and the post though.

I have a friend who works with metal and he says the metal they are punching these out of is too brittle I think the bracket should be sort of a Y to spread out the weight. I am still under warranty but opted to fix it myself do to a really, really bad service experience!
