Think he means when you have the backrest removed, the base that slides into the seat hole is made up of 2 rods w/a spring in between them to keep them pushed apart. You have to squeeze them together to get them to fit into the hole, then when released they lock into the base. At least thats the way it is w/my backrest. Though I don't have that piston/cable thingy, just an allen screw to move the pad forward and back. And even w/this style it still is kinda sloppy, but it works just fine.

By the way nice looking bike. I'm sure you know it but in case you don't you know there are buttons on the back of the backrest to adjust it up and down too. They are under the leather and you can't see them.
Thanks! I'm real happy with this bike. I moved up from an older ('92) Dyna and even though that bike was fast and ran great, this bike is an absolute pleasure to ride. It also looks a million times nicer than my old Dyna.

Anyway, I didn't realize the height would adjust at first. Then I read a blurb in the parts catalog and realized it. Thanks! It doesn't go down as low as I'd expect, but it's fine. I'm really not unhappy with the riders backrest at all. I just expected it to go lower and fit tighter. Don't know why really, I just did.

Ahhh, I see. No, I don't think mine works that way. You pull back this cover type of thing, stick the backrest down in the mount, then let the cover thing go down. There are two "nubs" (what the heck would you call these?) in the cover thing that lock into the backrest.

I literally only rode 5 miles through town right after the install, so I'm hardly an expert. But I noticed right away it was super comfortable with that backrest. REAL comfortable.

4, yeah the two must have different mounting styles. I'd have liked to have the one you do and the price diff. is only $10 between the two, but mine came w/what I got so I ain't gonna drop a few bills just for the luxury of cable control. Anyways, sweet lookin ride. Good luck w/it and ride safe.

Hey Sgtthump that's a nice looking ride. Hadn't seen your old picture for a while, thought maybe you took off or something.

Thanks and I hear ya... If this adjustable mounting bracket didn't already come on the bike, I highly doubt I ever would've considered adding one (or any riders backrest for that matter.) But since it already came on it, I figured I'd go ahead and order the backrest part and give it a shot. If I don't use it much, I'll sell the entire thing together as a package deal.

I will most likely use it, but you never know.
