Default ELECTRA GLIDE CLASSIC CONVERSION????

A few questions and your feedback is very much appreciate !!

1) How easy is it to convert the electra glideclassic into a street glide? Any $$ involved?

2) Besides the seat and its height, what are the major differences (from the street glide)? Different handlebars?

3) Looking at 2007 used models, why is the electra glideclassic cheaper?

I want to purchase a street glide but I am finding better deals on electra glideclassics (both 2007). I prefer the street glide because of its clean looks, white gauges, lower seat and the seat itself. But considereing the trunk that comes with the electra glideclassic, it appears to be a better deal. I want to begin taking longer trips and that is why I am selling my 2005 Fatboy.

Ride hard and ride safe!

Default RE: ELECTRA GLIDE CLASSIC CONVERSION????

If you go through the HD Parts & Accessories catalog (paper version or HD website) you can identify nearly all of the obvious parts (gauges, tank console, saddlebag support rail, etc.) and price their cost. You can also sell your take-off parts that are replaced and recoup roughly 50% of the cost.

The rear fender facia/LED is a somewhat different issue since the EG Classic rear fender has a fender tip light which will leave holes visible when removed and the SG facia installed--I replaced my fender with an SG fender when I did this change; others have done it by purchasing a Road Glide or Road King Custom fender. Fat Baggers Inc. sells take-off SG rear fenders complete. Of course, with the two-tone paint of the Classic, re-painting the new fender wouldbe in the cards and at additional cost.

Others simply remove thefront and rear chrome/rubber bumpers and that cleansup the fenders, also.

You can buy SG take-off seats for about 100 bucks.

How closely you wantto replicate a SG is your choice and it can be done piece by piece as time and budget permit.

As for the price difference, it's simply supply and demandIMO.

Good luck with your decision.

For comparison purposes, I 'm pretty sure that the Streetglide is the RK Custom platform with an "Electra Glide" fairing on it. Other than cosmetics, the Streetglide has 1" shorter rear shocks than your bike.
