A couple of times now I have noticed a clang or something slipping. As I took off in 1st gear I had this clang. It reminded me of a chain slipping on the front sprocket. No other time have I heard this or felt it. I do feel it when it happens. Any ideas?

Has your compensater nut come loose? That would likely create the problems you describe.
Okay, I looked through the service manual and all I find was where they were refering to a compensater sprocket. Are they refering to the sprocket as where the belt runs on in the front. It said it was behind the clutch.
No.
Compensator sprocket is inside the primary case.
The sprocket attached to the engine crankshaft...that nut.
You'll need to remove the primary cover to check this.
Also, does your bike have IDS?
If so, check that as well.
Compensating sprocket is the front motor crankshaft nut. Using torque wrench and 13/16 inch socket tighten engine compensating sprocket bolt to 155-165 ft lbs (210.1-223.7Nm).
After thinking a minute...perhaps you meant 1 3/16ths?
In either case, that's still not accurate.
1 3/16ths is the clutch sprocket nut.
1 1/2 is the compensator.
Maybe the automatic tensioner on the primary chain has failed and is causing the chain to run excessively loose (or the manually-adjusted tensioner needs to be adjusted if that's what's on your bike).
