Default jap transmission

I read a post yesterday that stated that if the second number in the trans serial # was 9 then
the trans was made in Japan if it was 0 then it was made in other countrys. he said he got this information from the service manual. The manual does,t say that. It states that if the number is 9
the transmission is made for japan if it is o it is made for all ather countrys

Made for Japan is the way I read it. Don't know why they need a different one.
