Default Ticking

I did a 103HQ on my Flhtc. I used AMS lifters. I changed oil at 100 then at 500 and again at 1,000. I then replaced the oil with amsoil. I went on a 1500 mile trip ( It was really hot ) The bike started ticking at 2200 rpm in third, fourth, fith or sixth gear. I have read about the synthetic causing the bike's to tick but this is the only rpm that it does it. What do you think?

Need more info, does it ONLY tick at 2200 rpm and above or just around 2200 rpm? What does it do cold at that rpm? Is it top end ticking? Need to narrower down the source.

Really hot , you say? I see you have tmax. Check the timing curve in that rpm range. I'm wondering if you might be getting light detonation?

The ticking happens at 2200 rpm no matter which of the gears I am in. It quits after I get above 2200. It doesn't do it until I get to 2200. This is not pinging.

Now that's very odd - assuming it's not timing.

Does this ticking occur in neutral as well?

With in neutral, idle around 2200, can you pin point where the noise is coming from?

What's the oil pressure at 2200 RPM?

Maybe worth a call to AMS about the lifters - see what they have to say about the ticking.
