I did a 103HQ on my Flhtc. I used AMS lifters. I changed oil at 100 then at 500 and again at 1,000. I then replaced the oil with amsoil. I went on a 1500 mile trip ( It was really hot ) The bike started ticking at 2200 rpm in third, fourth, fith or sixth gear. I have read about the synthetic causing the bike's to tick but this is the only rpm that it does it. What do you think?
Need more info, does it ONLY tick at 2200 rpm and above or just around 2200 rpm? What does it do cold at that rpm? Is it top end ticking? Need to narrower down the source.

Really hot , you say? I see you have tmax. Check the timing curve in that rpm range. I'm wondering if you might be getting light detonation? Ron
The ticking happens at 2200 rpm no matter which of the gears I am in. It quits after I get above 2200. It doesn't do it until I get to 2200. This is not pinging.
