I believe that the big heat wave should make it to DC in time for Rolling Thunder. How many of the late model 07/08s are gona overheat??? I know of 2 older bikes that suffered serious motor damage overheating there in past years.
If you are talking about the "Ride"...well, don't start your bike as soon as you hear the first rumble (unless you are in the first "line-up").Once your line starts moving, you should have no problem? I rode last year, and once the bikes start moving, they continue non-stop over Memorial Bridge...past the Capital building on to the parking area near Lincoln Memorial.
Only a couple miles. If you idle your engine as soon as you hear the first engine start (and you are near the rear..........you could be idleing for hours).
Ride starts about noon......I was out of there about 12:30. I got to DC, walked and paid respects at the "Wall". Listened to some speeches and music....when I left (two 1/2 hours later) the bikes were still coming into DC.
I won't make it this year...maybe next.
08 models can use the Engine Idle Temperature Management System read the manuel page 140 in the touring book! They say it wont over heat anymore guess we'll see!
