Default Route 66

Has anyone here motorcycled the length of Route 66 beginning in Chicago?

Not yet. But I'd love to. With living in MO I can pick up part of it.

From what little I know about it, the entire stretch of Route 66 is not intact and various detours would need to be made. Although I think it would still be an incredible ride.

I've hit the section which goes through Oatman, AZ. Very cool road / town. I would love to travel the entire length, would be a great trip.

I rode pieces of it from Oklahoma through Arizona. It merges on and off of highway 40, so you have to keep your eyes open for the signs. Nice country.

I have taken it from Chicago to Santa Rosa, NM 4 years ago and am going this year from Chicago to LA starting June 14th. There is a group that puts together a ride every year at that time. You can get more information at http://www.hhjm.com/rally/. A great time, great people and not crazy money like the MoCo trips. Sign up if your not busy.

I plan on riding it next year and I have all of the maps, books, info, etc. and am in the planning stages right now. jmeyer58..I'd be interested in any info you can provide after your run concerning weather, accommodation and other tidbits. Feel free to E-mail me privately if you don't want to bore the rest of the readers. I looked at that site before and it looks like it could be a fun way to go so I'd also like to know how the organized part of the trip goes.

I'm actually planning a trip that will see us riding over 13,000km (8,000+ mi) from here in Cornwall to Chicago then to L.A. on Route 66, then up the coast to Langley, Bristish Columbia to my son's home then to Calgary, Alberta and from there into the USA again to my brother in Ohio and finally back home......whew!!!

I did Rt. 66 and would MUCH rather spend my time in the Rockies vs. doing Rt. 66. It wasn't what I thought and the Hotels are all owned by towelheads that charge inflated prices for dumps. Look in my Photo album and see the Blue Swallow Neon sign in my saddlebag reflection. The Blue Swallow was the ONLY hotel worth staying at.

Surely there are name brand hotel chains between Chicago and L.A. since the interstate is always nearby.

You asked about Rt. 66 not I-40.

Have fun.

Yes I did and I would expect rip-offs in out of the way places along the old road. That's why it's nice to see that for most of the old route, an interstate is not too far away with all of its amenities
