My local dealer was in the process of taking a 2001 Screamin' Eagle R/G in on trade tonight. I didn't catch the mileage. It looked to be in prestine cond.
The salesman I know there said it'll prob go for somewhere in the 16K range.
It's the gunmetal gray & black. It has lowers, & the shorty tour pack. That's always been a favorite of mine.
I know 01's don't have the beefier rear axle (one drawback? or is it?)
Is there anything else (pros/cons) I should know?
I know that the motor uses the beefier Timkin bearings on that year. Thats a plus. If it's carbed would be great too. That year fuel injection isn't so hot.
Sharp bike and very limited production numbers. You might ask your questions on the cvoharley.com forum.
That's the place to go alright. Now if you go there, be prepared to tell them which dealer you saw it at!
The issues with that bike are:
The Magnetti-Marelli Fuel Injection. Many have either gone Carb, Zippers Kit, or Thayer HD Delphi Conversion kit.
Also the rear swing arm (pre '02) is not a beefy, and on some FLs have been known to crack.
And don't forget the cam chain tensioners.

I have 0 issues with my 01 and the 3/4" axle. You could convert it to 1" if you felt the need (swingarm, wheel bearing, caliper, axleand bushing change)

Quite a few guys lately on that forum have been picking up 01 SERG's. The pricing varies with the condition.
With a few mods it is a good bike. The injection and swing arm has already been mentioned. From there the gearing in the 01's is LOW. It is a wheelie bike. Change the compensating sprocket or go with a 6 speed. I still haven't cracked the motor open on mine, no need to. The Tour Pack is nice but is even more limited with the CD changer in it. I $hit canned the cd changer for more room (eventually went with a King Pack anyway).

That's exactly what I'm doing now. Over onthe Harley sites Tech Talkand Shop Talk more than a handful of riders have experienced cracked swing arms. One guys posted pictures of his cracked swing arm and it was so fine you could miss it with the naked eye. The photo had to be enhanced for us to see it. But a good run of the finger over area revealed it. The consenus is that it is a poor design exacerbated by the weight of the bike, and made even worse when folks put lowering kits on. Some beef them up with welded plates, othes change them out. So I picked up a newer swing arm, axle with bushings, and pivot shaft with bushings. All I need are the bearings and cleve blocks.I plan to make the change over whenit's time for a rear tire.
The other thing I did was dump the Marelli FI for the Zippers conversion kit. I should have went carb like you, but I WANTED an FI system.
