Bought my first Harley 2 months ago. Electra Glide 2008. Want to add slip ons. Not sure what route to go but I am looking at the Cycle Shack. I have been reading on here and other boards they are great quality especially for the price. Any ideas and/or suggestions. I am a high school football coach so I am not loaded but I want to do it right as well.
You need to spend a couple of months paying attention to everyone else's bike, what takes your fancy... do you want what everyone else has or something unique and what sound do you want.
Some are louder than others and some show rust on the inside of pipe more than others.
I went for Vance&Hines classic slip ons with the nose cone due to them not being too common in my parts; but it's up to you.
Suffice it to say if you then go to next step with air cleaner and mapping system for engine management you have a full stage one job.
Slip on's do just what they say, slip on, no issues, no need to remap (mostly).
Thanks for the input. One friend has Vance Hines and likes them. One has Rush and really likes them and one has Thunderhead and likes them. I want loud but not over the top mainly want a meaty rumble. I think I liked the Rush the best but I keep hearing about the Cycle Shack. That they weather well and all, I am not going to jump in quick just did some pretty up on the bike and need some time to save some money for the next big purchase.
Thanks again and any advice is greatly appreciated.
Hey Coach, watch E-bay Bobvic2 has his remanufactured mufflers for $89 right now and I hear they sound good. I just scored a set of year old Rush slipons for $110.00 delivered.
Lionpride1985, I went with the reinhart slipons. About $400 through Cateye Customs. They gave me a nice deep tone but I could still sneak out without desturbing the neighbors. But as the others have said take your time and try to find someone who has a set and listen to what they sound like.
Sound advice from both of you. I want to make a good decision but really tired of sounding like the little brother when riding with my friends. I need to see people turning their heads to see me coming. Have already had more fun than I even imagined when I got it but am looking forward to getting to all the stuff I want to do to the bike. I am glad I found this site I need some advice from someone other than the dealer and maybe more experienced than my friends,.
EBAYed up some Vance & Hines basic slip ons for my 06 Electra Glide. Beware!!! Some aftermarket slip ons as well as full exhaust systems will discolor (Blue) on you. Have not had this problem with the V&H. If your pockets are deep, V&H makes a doublewalled slip on that will absolutely not blue. Guaranteed!
Put Rush (1.75 baffle) on an '07 fatboy last year and Bub 7's on an '08 road king last week. Very different look and sound. The Rush pippes are louder and more simply designed while the Bub's are deep and neighbor friendly unless you open it up. The Bub's also reflect more effort in manufacturing, but you pay for it (twice the cost of the Rush pipes). Very happy with both but as well stated above, they are very different.
