I don't really give 2 chits what people think of me, and I'd lose no dignity riding a scooter (Sunl 250) to be thrifty on saving some $$ for my weekday work commute.
I think Strich is thinking of something different. Moped's of the 70's & 80's...no way I'd ride one. But the SCOOTERS of today? I'd have NO problems at all riding one of those. The Honda Silverwing as well as its Suzuki counterpart are fine machines, and they don't look bad at all.
But the point is moot. I've decided to trade in my RX8 on something that gets better mileage.
The reason I was even considering it is predictions of $5 to $6/gallon gas here in Dallas by end of summer. Some analysts are also predicting $12 to $15/gallon prices in the next couple of years.
Yes...TWELVE TO FIFTEEN DOLLARS PER GALLON.
Damn skippy I'd hop on a scooter if I have to pay those prices. Anyone who wouldn't...goody for you. You have more dollars than sense.
I think I would consider a scooter before a moped. But I'm not considering either, happy with my Harley
OK, i give. what's the difference between a scooter and a moped? i thought they were one in the same.
A moped can be peddled like a bicycle.
I have ridden mopeds and scooters (never owned either).
If your worried about image then wear a H-D T-shirt, Jacket, Chaps, boots, gloves, socks and underwear while riding it
but most important is to wear a full face helmet (preferably one with a dark or mirrored shield).
In the old days a moped was one of those Honda gissmos that you pedalled like a bicycle for a while until it got up to speed and then youcould have enought power to make it go. I couldn't see myself on a true moped but maybe one of those step thru scooters that really haul *** and get around 100 mpg.

There's a big difference between image and dignity.
I ride a SG, i got the image thing taken care of.
Well, I rode a Honda moped when I first got my drivers license...it was my brother's but what a hoot it was back in the early 60's! I enjoyed it so much that a few years ago I bought a used one for the wife and she enjoys riding it in the country where there is little to no traffic. I even take it to go to the post office once in awhile...don't care what people think! When I want to be macho, I break out the Roadking!
