Default Key West sunburn

I thought the sun didn't bother me. I live in north Florida, I always used mild sun lotion on my nose and arms on multi-day trips and no problem. I just got back from a four day Key West stay. I put about two thousand miles on. I am BOILED!!! Just a word of warning if you go to key west It's a different sun then anywhere in the U.S. even out west. Next time I go I'm using SPF one million if they make it.

You think it's bad now, wait until JUly or August. It's like being on the surface of the sun. I've been down there in the summer where I thought I would spontaneously combust at any given moment. Yes, it is a way different type of sun.

I live here in south Florida, and go to the keys almost montly....yes, it can get bad. My typical riding shirt is a long sleeve Flats-style fishing shirts with the vented caped back. I wear the nylon/supplex version, never feel sweaty as it wicks and also feels cool when riding. Just an idea, but it might work for you too.

Man, that brings back memories!! Did that run from Miami to the Keys a few years ago and there were some guys from Alabama with us. They all wore doorags and sunglasses and NO sunscreen because they were tough. At the end of the first day they all had a bright red patch above their sunglasses and below there hair line and LILY white everywhere else!!! Now I always ride with sunscreen....even in frosty Canada.

left Ft. Lauderdale @ 10:30 am today. Got as far as Key Largo & they had a 2 into 1 lane thing with the traffic backed up as far as the eye can se (my eye). Did a quick U turn, pulled a righty & 85 mph thru card sound road. Stopped for a drink in Alabama Jacks & a bite. Hopped back on the scoot and twisted the wick. 2 more miles & things got a little ugly.

Ever get caught in that far apart mini rain drops that feel like needles? Lasted thru to the Last Chance than did a Chrome Ave North, North West. Tried to maintain my speed limit which is 2,400 RPM's. Nice trip all of the way up to Cafe 27.

To that guy who needed to know how to wash his bike & stated he would never ride in the rain with his brand new bike. I just got one thing to say:

I am a very lucky guy to be able to pull a U turn on Key Largo & ride in the rain. That new bridge gives an excellent view on RT. 1 overlooking Lake Surprise & the Gulf. The Card Sound Road Bridge is also not too shabby. Ya, the wind pushed you all over but? You can watch life on TV or live the life, your choice.

Get off the couch & ya, I got sunburn for the 5th weekend in a row. I use sunblock, but ya just got'a live.

BTW, I just put a new 25T w/37T clutch & a new 34T/70T w/1" carbon fiber rear belt. I also put in a new 0.86 final/6th overdrive in place with the 0.89. At 2,600 you are doing 76/mph & 3K/rpm 88/mph. I do 2,200 in third around 45/mph or so. It is very comfortable cruising at 2,800/rpm. Thank God I am Alive! This is on my red FXR/113 ci.

Worst place I've ever been for a sunburn besides south Florida was Aruba. Went there in 2004 and didn't put a lick of sunscreen on. Fell asleep in the sun and my legs were burnt so bad they were almost purple. Every step felt like my skin was splitting.
