Just finished a 507 mile round trip to St. Augustine over the Memorial Day weekend. Girlfriend and I had a great time and have the sunburn to prove it. I tell you it gets hot in Florida and in August I am hating it but weather like this past weekend was perfect to ride in, clear blue sky and a nice breeze. My 08 EGC ran like a champ. I actually turned the radio off for miles just to listen to the sound of the engine/tranny purring, she sounds good. On I95 I ran 65 -70 MPH and, believe it or not, got 48MPH riding two up, I was pleasently surprised to see that. This was the first long highway trip I have taken on the new bike and I was impressed. She is not as "kewl" looking as my 06 Road King Classic, but she is more comfortable and got better gas mileage. St. Augustine was great, although I wish they would finish rebuilding the bridge of Lions, that drawbridge they have next to is is always creating traffic jams and is just plain ugly. It is a good city to visit if you ever get the chance.
Very glad to hear you two had a great ride. Please share some photos if ya have some (love Florida). What are some towns you hit along the way? Thanks for sharing your trip.
On the way up drove through Ocala and DeLand, both were nice little towns. Skirted the boundary of the Forest in Ocala. On the way back just took 95 south to I4 in Daytona where I stopped at J&PCycle and picked up an antenna mounted American Flag. You know, we both took our cameras but neither of us took any pictures. we are bad about doing that. Trust me if you can now is the time to ride in Florida before it gets too hot and the rain starts.
I will say this...I noticed my right had getting a little numb on the ride back. Never had that on my 06, but it had cruise control. I suspect the lack of CC on my 08 is what caused it..just more reason to install it now.
Also I did not notice this vaunted heat issue with the new 96' engine everyone talks about. the weather was in the high 80s this weekend and we were on the bike pretty much all day every day, didn't feel any hotter than my 88.
