This will be the trip for this weekend. Leave from the house in Stafford, VA around 0630 Saturday. weather looks good so far. Take the back roads out to HWY-28. South down 28 to US-29. Stay on 29 past Culpeper and Charlottesville. Dad says we will have to stop for coffee somewhere in there, I laughed , I have a cup holder on my bike. Continue south on US-29 to Amherst, VA. There we will jump onto US-60 west to Lexington, VA. Straight line is like 22 miles on 60, Google maps says 32 miles, its a windy road over the mountains 161 miles 3 hours 32 mins + coffee and gas stops. Not to mention any riding we do while we are out that way.
I will let you know how it went when we get back, might even strap the trail cam on the back of the bikes for ride pics.
The weather turned out not so good but we rode anyways. Because the weather wasn't looking that great we changed our route a bit. Instead of staying on US-29 to US-60 we opted to take I-64 west to I-81 south. Shortly after getting on 64 we decide that the Shenandoah HD is right around the 81/64 intersection, that would be a great place to stop and get a cup of coffee. As soon as I got off the bike I saw it, Crap! My US flag snapped my CB antenna right off and my flag is gone. now I have the long CB antenna again, Great store, nice people, I like that store.
Well we never got more than a few rain drops at a time on the way there. This morning at breakfast, looking at the radar, we decided to get on the road right away. There was a whole crap load of storms at home and heading that way. We got lucky and went between them the whole way home. The sky let go 10 minutes after we got home.
The route change made it 15 miles shorter than the original plan each way. Great ride!!!
