Well i just installed my front wheel on my 99 ultra.
used a torque wrench and thought i followed all the procedures.
It spins free and the calipers fit fine.
BUT,,,, on the right side of the bike where i used the long spacer(short won't work on that side)
the spacer doesn't contact the fork leg. On the other side my spacer seems to be just the speedo
drive and i believe i have one spacer(the smaller one)left over. I can't figure out where it goes or fits. I assumed it had to go on the speedo drive side but the drive needs to rest against the rotor
and it sure doesn't look like it goes on top of the speedo drive. Can't figure it out. ???
1999 e-glides have cable operated speedo - so yes, a speedo drive at the front wheel. I know, the cable breaks on mine every 15,000 miles on average.
Do you have a parts book (not the service manual). I'll check when I get back home tonight - the parts book has good exploded diagrams - I use it hand-n-hand with the service manual.

On my softail the spacer never touched thefork leg it was pinched between the machined stepon the axle to the wheel
The spacer goes on the other side. IF you try to ride without proper spacers it could drastically affect your ability to stop and wheel could wobble a LOT. Don't ask how I know.
TGs got it right, the long spacer contacts a ridge on the axel and the axel sits in the leg.the spacer does not contact the front leg.
There is also alittle washer that has a ridge on one side, and that ridge goes against the long spacer and the flat side goes against the wheelbearin. Get a manual and make SURE you install them correct.
If you install these parts wrong you will put stress on the fork slide races and will cause undue wear on them. You just dont need a front end set up wrong!
Go to a HD shop and look at their parts book, there should be some parts pages somewhere on line. GET THEM RIGHT!
