"Unquantifiable" is accurate. I use a RK Standard solo seat on my bike; I'm 6'1" and unless I lean back slightly, don't know that the King TP is behind me. Also, I don't ride with a backrest, so I have never gotten used to having one. If you want a backrest for support, I doubt that you will be happy with the King TP backrest--it's too high to provide support in the lumbar area.

As for adding the rear speakers, friends who have them say they add a lot to their enjoyment of their music. I have the TP on my bike so little I haven't gotten around to that, yet.

Good luck with your research. Too bad HD doesn't sell a solo seat with a backrest--and I agree, Iclick's set-up is very sharp.
Thanks...your input helps a lot, and confirms that I probably should look more closely at iclick's write up - seems like he has the right idea. I guess I can start with the $450 seat (the only benefit to the sundowner is the price point) before I tackle the $1000 tour pak. Since when did HD mean Hundreds of Dollars?

You might be better off with a Mustang solo with backrest; basically the same $$$. And there are discounters e.g. M&M Cycles, Zanotti's, Chicago HD, etc.

Are you dead set on the chopped Tour Pak?

I considered it but didn't like how muchthe support showed underneath.

For a few extra dollars, you'll appreciate the extra space in the King Tour Pak.

Be sure to get a look at an installed chopped vs. King Tour Pak before you buy. Pay attention to the amount of support that shows under the chopped version. That alone was what convinced me to go to the King Tour Pak for my Road King.

Andy
i'm not following you here. the only difference between the chopped tour pak and the king tour pak is that the chopped is 3 inches shorter. they mount the same (as far as i can tell), they even use the same lid....

what am i missing?

my set up is the chopped tour pak with backrest. in stock configuration, the backrest was too far forward. went with the george anderson relocation kit, moved it back 1-1/4 inches (and as a bonus, up about 3/4, moved the backrest up to a more comfortable spot in my back) i like the sportier look of the chopped pak and can still stuff quite a bit of stuff into it. if me and the wife go anywhere, if we can't fit it in 4 saddlebags and 1 chopped tour pak, then i guess we don't really need it that bad. if i was buying new side by side, i would probably go with the king over the chopped because of the price difference, but because i got a smoking deal on the chopped, i'm happy there. i guess i'm saying that if the price doesn't bother you, don't not get the chopped because of the loss of storage space. ymmv

Skratch...what solo seat are you using, and can you provide any more details on your relocation kit (it's not one I've run across in my research)?

Skratch,

Maybe I did not describe what I was seeing clearly.....I saw the King Tour Pak and the Chopped Tour Pak mounted on detachable setups at a dealership. Obviously the mounting points are the same. The difference that I didn't like was the amount of support showing under the chopped tour pak versus the King Tour Pak. At the risk of causing more confusion....I did not take measurements, but I am assuming the Chopped and King Tour Paks are somewhat close to the same height when mounted. I am assuming this because the attached back rest would have to be in a usable position. They appeared to be the same height when I saw them at the dealership. It appears that the chrome brackets attached to the bottom of the chopped tour pack are taller (more visible) than the chrome brackets attached to the deeper King Tour Pak. In other words it looked likethe Chopped Tour Pak had to be mounted on a higher support bracket in order to be at the right height to serve as a backrest. Hopefully this clarifies what I was trying to point out. If the supports for the Chopped and King Tour Pak are the same, then I cannot explain the perception that I got when viewing both of them at the same time. We are in agreement that the King Tour Pak is probably a better value when looking at capacity, but the owner has to decide what looks best to him or her. My primary point was that the owner needed to look at both combinations, not just the box, to be sure that he would be happy with what he bought. Both Tour Paks are quite expensive and we are fussy about our machines!

andy,

that must have been some kind of display configuration that you saw at the dealer. both the chopped tourpak and the king tourpak use the same mounting brackets, so the bottom of the tourpak is at the same height, but the top is shorter. your observation about the backrest being lower on your back is dead on. thats why i like the george anderson relocation kit, it effectively raised the backrest on the tourpak up about 3/4 inch, as well as moved it back and 1-1/4 inch. you can see it pretty clearly in the attached pic. if you look close, you will see the rack, then the chrome bar, then the relocation kit, then the tourpak. so if the kit wasn't there, it woud sit about 3/4 inch lower. another benefit is that it gives you a touch more room to open your saddlebags....

ddwyer,

i am using a c&c solo seat. i had a corbin classic, but because of the corbin mounting, the solo tourpak rack would not work. note, the 2 up will, just not the solo. if you do a search here on the forums, you will find a ton of praise for george. his kit is top notch, he does not have a website, you have to call him up. he will send it out to you before you even send him a check, how awesome is that? his phone numbers are: (309) 762-6291 or cell (309) 236-0952.

anyone who cares:

heres a pic..... i know it looks like the kit extends in front of the tourpak, but it really doesn't, that is just the angle that i took the pic at....

Here's my setup. Installing with Mustang seat with backrest requires some mods, written up here:

+1 on this installation. I downloaded iclick's instruction and it worked to a "t". If your worried about room get the King, if you want looks get the Chopped.
