Went to CT for the weekend to attend the Brian Aselton Memorial Ride (10th anniversary). Had a great party Saturday night, but Sunday leaving the hotel to head to the ride just pulled onto the interstate and got up to about 75mph and the front handlebars started wobbling like heck. Pulled over and found the rear tire flat as a pancake. Got Gengras HD in E. Hartford CT to come pick me up (this is where the ride was leaving from) They get me to the shop only to find out that they don't have a tech on duty! WTF, they have a big event and ride with over 1500 bikes and no tech on duty. They tell me that I'll have to leave the bike until Tuesday. NOT! I bought a plug kit and was going to limp to a Uhaul place or something when the GM comes out and says that he called a tech in on overtime to get me on the road and to look at another bike from a member of our same club out of NY. Kudos to them for doing that for us. Missed the freakin' ride totally and spent $260 that I hadn't planned on, but the weekend was fun nonetheless.
I've had lots of different things in my tires (Car and bike) over the years, but by far the most often culprit was roofing nails.
Yup, I picked upa roofing nail in my rear tirelast year about this time, when my Ultra was only about 3 weeks old. I was only a few miles from the dealer, and they came and picked me up and got me back on the road in about an hour.
I ended upbuying the plug kit at the dealer and was going to limp it home or limp to a Uhaul place so now I have a plug kit Hey Petemac, sent ya a PM back in May and never heard back from ya.....how are the parts acquisition coming along?

I ended up with this freakin monster road debri stuck in the Metzler 200 on my 2005 Vulcan 2K.
Part of a CV bearing housing. Talk about an IMMEDIATE flat. No "sssssss", no slow leak, no gradual wobble. Just POOF! FLAT
It was semi-U shaped, so it not only punctured the tread, it wrapped around and slashed the sidewall so there was no way to repair on the spot. Called a flatbed and had it hauled to the dealer.
I'll take a roofing nail over one of those things, any day of the week.
Didn't know if we were still on for the install and I was holding off on getting the parts till I was sure. I'm up at Americade in Lake George right now. Rode up in rain on Sat and even ran into hail!
First time I've ran into hail on a bike. At least it wasn't large hail. And of course the forecast for the ride home on Wed is.....yep, more rain. [:@]
I'll send you a pm when I've ordered the parts. Thanks.
I'm over in Rutland at present at the academy all week. Route 4 sucks with the road construction for anyone that plans on heading to Americade and/or back this way.
